When I place giant skylander on the portal of power a message comes up saying this toy can not be used with this game, ?

Dude, the giants only work on Skylanders Giants. What made you think they would work?

The series 2 skylanders giants work on spyros adventure as I have them. Check on the box if they are compatible with both.
