Question for Skylanders Spyro's Adventure

No matter what I do, I can't open the gate with the key in Chapter 2? Anyone know why? Tried all kinds of Skylanders, tech kind and others. Help!

You need a life elemental character. When you go through the level you will see 3 bunches of red flowers near a big house and a wooden fence. Do not break the wooden fence to move on. Instead use your Life Elemental and go to the left of the house to the edge of the cliff. A bridge will appear. This takes you to the Legendary treasure and puts you on the other side of the gate. There is a switch on that side that opens the gate.
