All you have to do is race and get NXP points to unlock paint schemes.

Well, it's simple. Get as many NXP points as possible during one race, complete bonus tasks, and keep leveling up. Usually, in one day, it's possible to move up about 6 or more levels and get several paint schemes if you're consistent or obsessed.
