Mission 6-Caribou Hunt- How do I cross the log?

Mission 6 Sky Mountain Alaska Caribou Hunt requires that you find an alternate route or cross a log to complete this hunt. Everytime I start to cross the log it rotates, I start to fall, it shows the letter "B" in a circle , I wildly push the "B" button, and then I scream as I fall to my death. What do I need to do to get past this stinking thing?
