Join An Alliance
Make joining an active Alliance the first thing you do when you begin playing Warhammer: Chaos & Conquest. This is important because when you do so you will get a rare 'Warlord' which will enable you to increase your battle power a lot quicker. Joining an Alliance will also has other benefits, it will enable you to get assists for all your building requirements, and it gives you additional protection from random attackers who will fear retaliation from the Alliance.
Complete the Daily Challenges
In Warhammer: Chaos & Conquest you will be given 9 daily trials, and you should aim to complete at least 6 of them in order to earn the Warpstone they offer. Warpstone is the most precious of substances in Warhammer games and to unlock this valuable currency as a reward 6 of the daily trials must be completed. This is not difficult to do as the objectives you are given are usually things you would do during natural progression in the game anyway.
Increase Production Speeds
In order to get ahead of the competition it is essential that you are constantly researching skills that increase production speeds. This means you need to make sure your sorcerers citadel is researching skills like 'Arcane knowledge' which increases research speed and 'Harsh Task Master' which increases the training speed of your troop.
If you have these research skills in combination with Champion skills like 'Rituals I' which increases research speed and 'Construction I' which increases construction speed you will compound their effects.

Always Be Upgrading, Producing Troops, and Studying
It is essential, especially if you are going down the free to play route that you are always upgrading, producing troops, and studying in order to keep your fortress in optimal shape. If you are not spending real money on gems you will need to spend time doing this and should consider requesting support from your Alliance to speed things up. Make sure any gems you unlock for free are used to unlock extenders that allow you to have more upgrades going at the same time.
Complete Chapter Challenges
Once you have done the daily challenges and have the Warpstone you are given as a reward you need to focus your attention on completing the chapter challenges in Warhammer: Chaos & Conquest as they gift you huge rewards when they have been completed. Always check to make sure you are making progress on these challenges, so you can collect the big rewards they grant.
