Hi to invite a sim over you go to that blue folder that is on the left of you screen, once you tap on it you will see the faces of all of your sims and below all of them it will show an exclamation mark on the left and a whistle on he right you then click the whistle of the person That you want to invite.

Hi if would like to added people to your sims so you could go visit them is by you could add people that are on Facebook that play sims or if you have a game center account you added people from Game Center that play sims.

The same thing happened to me, I fixed it by restarting my phone then opening sims again and it worked, if that doesn't work try buying a new patch.
