Interacting
The only time something you encounter will be triggered and fire or move is if Drake takes a step. This means you can interact and toggle with things like dart-shooting traps without coming to any harm as long as you do not take a step.
Moves
Regardless of the number of steps Drake takes during a single move action it will only count as one move, this includes pressing buttons, shooting objects, or claiming a treasure collectible.
Gun
There are some switches that can be triggered from a distance using Nathan’s gun. Shooting does not use up any moves, so you can stand still and play around with them. It does however require a clear path between Nathan and the switch.
Journal
You can make solving puzzles easier by referring to Drake's journal which tracks everything he has encountered and what it affects by marking it with a symbol.
Tile Movement
Once a tile disappears, even if it comes back during the same movement action it will mean the path you have drawn out for Drake will be interupted.
Single Run
It is not necessary to get the key on the first run, if there is another collectable on the stage that requires you to use more moves than you have focus on getting that first before clearing the stage. It is important to remember this because the collectible will be gone if you return to the stage but the key if you didn't collect it will still be there.
Layout Clues
There will be times you will be able to get clues on what the correct path is and how you need to move just by looking at the way the layout of the level has been designed. For example, if you see collapsing tiles that don't appear to be near the main path it is more than likely you will need to cross over them at some point.
Treasure Collectables
Always keep an eye out for a gold sparkle as this indicates treasure collectables. Treasure collectables will not display an icon on a completed level unless they have been collected.
Top-Tier Costumes
Try to save up for the Mo-Cap Nate and the Pegleg Nate costumes. The Mo-Cap Nate costume grants two extra moves towards earning keys and the Pegleg Nate costume gives you 25% extra gold from puzzles.
Continues
It is not worth spending Mystical Orbs on continues as they will only take you back one move. It is more beneficial to spend them on hints if you are really stuck.
