Why is it most Jurassic Park games suck? As you first look at the screenshots on the box, you may think Trespasser looks awesome. The problem is, the screenshots were basically made up to make things look easy. They aren't. It may look cool to throw a chair at a raptor, but you'll probably never get a chance to do it. Even then, it wouldn't do any good because the raptor wouldn't really be effected. Those screenshots are only there the game look cool, and believe me, it isn't.
Maybe it's just my computer, so maybe the graphics really are good. If not, then these are some of the ugliest graphics in exsistence. Parts of the enviroment fade in and out of existence, nothing looks very detailed, and the graphics also tend to just get really glitchy. For example: you will see a reddish block in the distance, but as you get close to it, you will discover it's a raptor now easily able to tear you limb form limb since you're so close to it.
You may be wanting to hear the cool raptor cry or T-rex roar from the movies, but instead you're going to get what was probably someone with a bad cold moaning into the sound recorder. There is very little music in the game, and while the peices dont usually last for more then 10 seconds, it isn't all that great. So most of the time, you'll just be hearing bird chirps from the treetops. The voice acting stinks except for Richard Attenborough's, who came back to voice John Hammond.
When you think of a Jurrassic Park shooter, you would want to re-live some of the classic moments, such as driving a jeep with a T-rex right behind you, or running through tall grass while trying not to be pulled down by a raptor. Sadly, everything everyone loved from the movies is completley gone. The plot is way too simple for example. You are the only survivor of a plane that crashed onto Site B, so you need to find a way to call for help. Sound's fun right? Yep, and Andocondas was a good movie. Obviously, not much happens as you probably gathered from the plot. Most of the time your'e just walking around, and when you do happen to run into a dino(usually a raptor), it's hard to kill because guns are pretty hard to find and there isn't even a cursor to aim with. Obviously you won't need a cursor while taking down a T-rex because they're huge. Oh, right, and you can't reload, and the guns don't cross over to the next level. You could try to kill a raptor with a bat, but it will probably grab hold of your arm and bite it off, causing a cheap death. I also hate the programmers for not putting in a radar, because if you take damage from behind, you'll be dead before you can turn around to do something about it. In fact, seeing Anna, you're character, die is the only good thing about the game. When she die's, she falls onto her back, and you can watch the raptor or rex eat her body. Also, depending on the gore level, blood will fly out everywhere. Sadly, death's aren't very realistic. You would expect a rex to grab you and swallow you whole. Instead the rex will get what seems to be endless meat off of Anna. Obviously, that dosen't make sense. Also, there are no driveabel vehicels, so you will be doing alot of walking.
The game long outstays it's short welcome, and if you decide to finish it instead of return it, the game will probably never be touched by you again. It will just sit there for ages to come, getting dustier and dustier and dustier. There's nothing fun walking around an island for hours, so I doubt you'll want to do it again.
This game could have been really good if they put in more music, characters, and more types of dinos(there are only seven kinds, and only three of them will try to kill you) . If only Trespasser could be like the Lost World arcade game, it might have ended up being a great game that would have gone down in gaming history.
