Townscaper Cheats, Tips, Strategy

Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper's underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration. Townscaper has no inherent objective or story. Below is a collection of cheats and tips that will help you to progress in the game.

  • How to Make Archways
  • Archways are an effective feature you may want to consider adding, to do so you simply create two buildings where you want the arch to appear between and add a roof covering both buildings and the space between. It is possible to build archways that span gaps bigger than one or two blocks. These larger gaps though may need to have scaffolding to support them.

  • How to Build a Lighthouse
  • Building a lighthouse in Townscaper is not difficult, all you need to do is place three (or more) blocks on top of each other in a narrow tower. If you make sure that the three blocks are different colors, the top block will automatically turn into the windowed part of the building.

  • How to Make your City Float
  • In order to create a floating city you need to form a circle on your map. When there are no corners to build upon, the game will create triangular buildings that do not have any room for stilts to hold them up, so instead get propellers to keep them upright. Once the outline has been created, you will be able to fill in the space and build up. It is possible to connect floating islands.

  • How to Make Staircases
  • To create staircases you first need to create a foundation, then add two buildings on the edge of the foundation. If you leave one space between them, you will create one set of stairs. If you leave two spaces, you will create two staircases that face each other. Leaving any more than two spaces will not spawn any stairs as the gap is too big. It is possible to build larger staircases, but they require a Plaza behind them and buildings with the height of at least two blocks.

  • How to Make a Hook
  • To add metal hooks in Townscapper you will need to place a floating building between two foundations, making sure you leave one square space for the hook to appear. This will happen when you place the floating building. It is important to remember that hooks will not work if the structure is not surrounded by a lot of space in front of it. Also, if a third block is added by the side of the hook, it will be removed.

  • How to Place Grass
  • Grass in Townscaper will only appear within a closed-off area. This closed-off area needs to be a full building around the outside. When you then draw a shape by placing buildings connected to each other (in one color), a green patch of grass will appear in the middle of it. Remember that the grassy area will disappear if a hole is made in any wall. When you add a grassy area other garden items will appear, these include things like wildflowers, small bushes, and butterflies.

  • How to Spawn Pigeons and Butterflies
  • You will require two different elements in order to spawn pigeons and butterflies in Townscaper. Pigeons require roofs, or scaffolding, before these randomly generated little birds spawn and hop around and butterflies can only spawn around grassy items such as bushes which they will flap aimlessly around.
