Enemy
Before you engage in battle with the enemy it is worth taking the time to look at the type of soldiers your opponent is working with so you get some idea to what sort of attack to expect. If for example you see your enemy is working with cavalry troops you will want to replace your swordsmen with spear men so you can effectively counter their attack.
Buildings
Do your research when you have the resources to place a new building, remember that placement is important as some buildings have specific bonuses when placed next to certain buildings.
Special Abilities
Make sure you read up on any special abilities you unlock so that you are not wasting precious time during combat trying to figure out what each of the icons triggers.
Upgrade Troops
Keep an eye on your army's stat window as you earn XP from winning battles to see if there is a group of your troops that can be upgraded with better stats or combat abilities.
Crafting
When you reach level 21 you will be able to craft better equipment for your troops. Start with your first row of units before upgrading anything else.
Retreat
When you are losing a battle try not to retreat because although it will require less for your troops to recover you will not gain any XP. Either retreat before you get any casualties or don't retreat at all.
Gold
The in-game premium currency is gold. Don't be tempted to waste it on cosmetic items, it is more beneficial to save your gold and spend it on things that will help you in battle.
Finding Gold
You can find gold several ways, these include exploring a Tomb, Taverns, selling cattle, and hunting beasts (wolves).
Granted Gold
You will be granted gold through a daily tribute available at one of your castles each day, prospecting a Gold Mine and mining it, leveling up to specific levels, and completing Battle Quests.
More Trees
Remember the following when you need more trees:
1) Trees grow faster near water
2) Woodcutters plant trees so trees will grow next to woodcutters.
3) Trees will propagate over time next to other trees.
