#1 - Iron Man
Tony Stark is a billionaire industralist and genius inventor who after terrorists kidnap while he is conducting weapons tests overseas force him to build a devestating weapon. Instead Stark builds an armoured suit and escapes his captors. when Stark returns to America he refines the suit and uses it to combat crime and terrorism. Tony Stark does not control the Iron Man suit on his own, he has help from his artificially intelligent computer system named JARVIS.
#2 - Darth Vader
Darth Vader was once a man named Anakin Skywalker who following his near-fatal duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi was given life saving mechanical appendages that were designed to maintain and protect the young sith apprentice's charred body while exuding an air of intimidation and control. The suit of armour Darth Vader is forced to wear not only acts as a life support system but also gives him greater strength than an ordinary man, enhanced durability and stamina, numerous sensory enhancements, and protection from inhospitable environments and biological weaponry.
#3 - RoboCop
After being critically injured while on duty the wife of Detroit cop Alex Murphy signed consent papers to allow her husband to be turned into RoboCop. There wasn't much of Murphy used in RoboCop, just his right hand, face, brain, heart and lungs. The armoured suit Murphy wears is composed of titanium laminated with kevlar which makes RoboCop resilient against both bombs, bullets, and extreme impacts such as being hit by cars.
#4 - Terminator
The Terminator is a cyborg assassin sent back in time from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Conner whose son will one day become a savior against machines in a post-apocalyptic future. The Series 800 Terminator used a metalic endoskeleton covered with living tissue and was a breakthrough in developing Terminators that were similar to humans so that it could become the perfect infiltrator.
#5 - Power Loader (Aliens)
Maybe not the sexiest mech on the list to look at but without doubt as iconic as the other four. Who could forget the final scene of the Aliens movie when Ripley goes toe to toe with the Alien Queen inside the futuristic forklift. The Caterpillar P-5000 Powered Work Loader is a commercial mechanised exoskeleton used for lifting heavy materals and objects and used by the United States Colonial Marine Corps.
