Perform Surprise Attacks from Behind
If you approach enemies from behind in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV and perform a surprise attack it grants you the first strike which will give you a slight advantage before combat begins by reducing your foe's break gauge at the start of the battle. In order to perform a surprise attack you need to press R2 on your controller. Remember though that surprise attacks may not work on some of the larger enemies you encounter.
Prioritize your Accessories
It is essential in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV that you continually assess your accessories and equip those that will help you against the enemies you are likely to encounter, particularly those enemies that inflict status ailments. If you know you will not require any resistance against enemies that inflict status ailments you should focus, particularly in the early stages on accessories that increase HP.
Defeat Tough Enemies Easier
It is recommended that before you engage in combat with tough enemies, especially bosses, you first accumulate at least 200 Craft Points (CP) and 7 Bravery Points (BP) by defeating weaker foes, so you have access to Crafts and Brave Orders during the fight. Doing this will help to make the fight substantially easier.
Take Advantage of Brave Orders
Look to take advantage of Brave Orders whenever you encounter strong enemies as they will allow you to use abilities that grant special effects without using up a turn. In order to use Brave Orders though you will need BP. Brave Orders are particularly effective when they are used against bosses who use a powerful strike on the next turn after they have charged as they will help to reduce the incoming damage taken.
Reinforce the Sub Slot
In Legends of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV you can now equip the same Master Quartz in the Sub slot to any number of characters opening up more powerful combos. It is therefore important that you prioritize using your Sepith to reinforce the Sub slot, so you can equip Master Quartz to R and SR characters to increase their stats. Using the Master Quartz that you find in treasure chests during game progression should be enough to get you through the early stages of the main story.
How to get Mira Early
The money used in The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel IV is called Mira and you will be able to get this currency during the early stages of the game by selling the Sepith Masses you obtain from defeating enemies in battle. Another way to get around 10,000 Mira is to sell the incense you come by, particularly the ones that are difficult to use.
