Always keep in mind that pitchers will throw balls outside the strike zone intentionally to get in your head. You need to be patient and watch the ball's trajectory, so you can predict where it will land. Don't swing at the ball if the pitch looks like it is going up too high or is going to hit the ground. By not swinging at the ball you open up the possibility of being struck by the ball which will advance you to first base.

Try to make the pitcher tired by throwing as many pitches as possible. Once the pitchers starts to slow down they will start making mistakes which will force the opposing team to substitute. Although the relief pitcher will not necessarily be worse they will typically have less stamina and tire out quickly.

In Super Mega Baseball 4 there are three main batting types, and it is important that you fully understand when to use all three.

- Contact Swings

Contact Swings are your standard, they are easy to time but not the most powerful. Occasionally you will be able to send a ball out the park with it. Use this batting type most of the time, especially when you are trying to get the bases loaded or take the lead in a close game.

- Power Swings

A Power Swing has the most potential to send a flying out the park. The downside to this swing is that they are more difficult to land because you have to gather power before you swing. In order to fully utilize the Power Swing you need to get the charging number as close to 99 before swinging at the ball. Don't use Power Swings on every pitch, the best time to capitalize on this batting type is when the bases are loaded or the opponents' pitcher is low on stamina and starts throwing the ball at slower speeds. Keep in mind you can also use Power Swings to reduce the pitchers stamina by whacking the ball at them. Hitting the ball at the pitcher can also injure the pitcher which forces a substitution.

- Bunting

Bunting is a batting type where you hit the ball softly and place it in a specific location to advance a runner to the next base or surprise the opposing team's defense.

It is essential that you learn the Pitching Arsenal. Keep in mind different pitchers have different pitch types, every pitcher can only have 2-5 pitches in their arsenal. It is recommended that if you are managing a franchise or season team you make sure you have pitching depth by having different kinds of pitches at your disposal.
