Go to the Question Mark Icons for Help

Keep an eye out for the icon that looks like a question mark with some colorful dots around it if you are not familiar with the original Sonic Colors. If you go to this icon, you will activate tips from Tails on how to defeat the bosses and complete the stages. These question mark icons are not always easy to see when you are moving so fast as Sonic and they tend to blend in with the background, so you will need to pay attention in order to find them.

How to Unlock Early Stage Areas

How to Unlock Early Stage Areas

When you begin playing Sonic Colors Ultimate, it will become apparent that there are some areas in the early stages that you will not be able to access. It won't be until later in the game, and you have obtained the various Wisps, that you will be able to return and unlock those parts using their powers. This is something you will need to do as these locked areas will have the hidden items, most of which are red rings that are required to unlock Rival Rush mode.

Grab the Red Stars for Upgrades

During a run in Sonic Colors Ultimate you need to try and pick up every ring you see. Keep a particular eye out for the red star rings, as these are the key to accessing some new features in the remaster. Also keep in mind that the red rings become harder to obtain as the stages become bigger, so it is crucial that you keep an eye out for indicators that will lead you to them. You can see how many red rings are available to collect in a stage by looking at the small screen on the bottom right where whenever you pick up one of the red rings during gameplay they will turn red. One of the features that is unlocked when you pick up a red ring is Rival Rush where Sonic races against Metal Sonic for unlockable rewards.
