The Sid Meier's Civilization series has a definite legacy of being one of the best turn-based strategy games the world has ever seen, and this volume of the popular series didn't fail to deliver. But the main question was: Would it defeat the success of Civilization IV, and be able to live up to the hype given to it? Lets take a look!
Pretty dang good. A definite improvement of Civilization IV. They grass waved, the environments looked excellent, the unit had those small detail's that put them over the top. The Number-One thing for me was the cities. The looked better than ever, and would actually expand as your population grew. The buildings looked realistic, and when you built a Wonder, a small model of that Wonder was added to your city. And when the city was under attack, the city caught on fire. The water was wavy and blue, and the mountains and hills were just right. Overall, a very good job done with the graphics.
The sound was mediocre. The best part, in my mind, was the calm country-specific music in the background. But eventually, it fades into nothing because you get used to it. The combat sounds were OK, nothing more. The guns sounded good, and the mechanized units sounded OK, but a better job could have been done.
Very good Gameplay, in my mind. The units move well, and the new Hex-based move system works better than the old circle tiles. It allows for more Military style maneuvers, adding to the game a good touch.
Now, for online. Bottom Line-It ALWAYS lags. Even on the best of desktops, it lags. This really detracts from the experience of playing with others, and really turns some people off.
Overall, could've been a bit better.
Well, this game will last as long as it takes to make a new Civilization game. The series is still popular, and another Civilization is probable. This game will be like Civilization IV; People will buy the new version, those who like the new version never play Civilization V again, those who don't like it keep playing Civilization V. Overall, this game will last as long as it has to until Sid Meier brings the next installment to light.
Overall, it was good, but it could have been a bit more tweaked with updates, and could've been in production a month or so more to get the Online right. This game is still good and will have player for a long time, but this game really failed, in my mind, to satisfy the dedicated Civilization players, and was more geared towards attracting new players.
Overall, I give this a Seven out of Ten. Thanks for reading, and read my Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Republic Commando reviews as well!
