Scorn is a first-person biopunk survival horror adventure game that is inspired by the works of visual artists H. R. Giger and Zdzislaw Beksinski. Set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry you are isolated and lost inside this dream-like world where you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself. Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive lived in world. Throughout the game you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.

Below is a collection of hints and tips that will help you to progress in the game. These include why you should always scan your environment when you enter a new area and why you should not try to rush through the game.

Scan your Environment

It is crucial that you are observant when you enter a new location as there is a lot of unusual technology which blends into the environment which can make it difficult to pick out. It is recommended that the first thing you do upon entering a new area is to scan it for interacting objects before using one. If you do this you will become aware of the options you have available before you begin the puzzle. It will also help reveal any enemies that could sabotage your strategy.

How to Solve Puzzles

Initially you will find it difficult to figure out how to solve the puzzles in Scorn as they are presented with almost no information. To begin with you will have no option but to rely on trial and error in order to try and get some clues. More often than not the surrounding scenery can reveal information that relates to the puzzle so make sure you have explored the whole map before you begin. Also take not of how the puzzle is affecting the room as that can sometimes give you a clue.

Don't Waste Ammo

It is important that you keep in mind that the ammo for the weapons in Scorn is not easy to come by. This means as you traverse Scorn you need to avoid firing rounds unnecessarily and if you do have to fire your weapon you need to make sure you make every shot count. Although the Melee Prod weapon is a decent backup the shotgun will enable you to clear through enemies much easier.

Proceed Cautiously

Do not run at enemies with all guns blazing in Scorn as this will only lead to a quick death. The best strategy to combat the enemy is to attack them from a distance and hide behind cover when necessary, this will be the fallen pillars, jutting architecture or fleshy masses found throughout the game. Progressing through Scorn in a slow cautious manner is not only safer it will also help you to conserve ammo which is not easy to come by throughout the game.

Run if Necessary

Don't be afraid to fall back if you encounter a tough enemy, and you have spent time working through a puzzle. Falling back to a safer area instead of trying to blast away the enemy will not only keep you alive, but it will also help conserve ammo.
