The unsettling environment is a character itself. Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles, and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive lived-in world. Throughout the game, you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, and various items, and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.

• Scan your Environment

  It is crucial that you are observant when you enter a new location as there is a lot of unusual technology which blends into the environment which can make it difficult to pick out. It is recommended that the first thing you do upon entering a new area is to scan it for interacting objects before using one.

  If you do this you will become aware of the options you have available before you begin the puzzle. It will also help reveal any enemies that could sabotage your strategy.

• Don't Waste Ammo

  It is important that you keep in mind that the ammo for the weapons in Scorn is not easy to come by. This means as you traverse Scorn you need to avoid firing rounds unnecessarily and if you do have to fire your weapon you need to make sure you make every shot count. Although the Melee Prod weapon is a decent backup the shotgun will enable you to clear through enemies much easier.

• Proceed Cautiously

  Do not run at enemies with all guns blazing in Scorn as this will only lead to a quick death. The best strategy to combat the enemy is to attack them from a distance and hide behind cover when necessary, this will be the fallen pillars, jutting architecture, or fleshy masses found throughout the game.

  Progressing through Scorn in a slow cautious manner is not only safer it will also help you to conserve ammo which is not easy to come by throughout the game.

• Run if Necessary

  Don't be afraid to fall back if you encounter a tough enemy, and you have spent time working through a puzzle. Falling back to a safer area instead of trying to blast away the enemy will not only keep you alive, but it will also help conserve ammo.

• Don't Forget to Reload

  Reloading your weapon is a time-consuming endeavor in Scorn. It is crucial that you keep in mind that whenever your character refills the ammunition the few seconds that pass is long enough to make you an easy target for enemies.

  To help prevent this from happening you should make it a habit to reload after every confrontation and stay on the move with a full magazine. If you do have to use your weapon make sure every shot is accurate so you don't have to insert new bullets during a confrontation.

• Swap your Weapons

  Changing your weapon in Scorn during a confrontation is done much faster than reloading it. For example, if you run out of ammo with your pistol and your opponent is not yet defeated, you should immediately switch to the shotgun instead of trying to reload the pistol. The seconds you save doing this can make the difference between staying alive and being killed.

How to Solve Puzzles

Initially, you will find it difficult to figure out how to solve the puzzles in Scorn as they are presented with almost no information. To begin with you will have no option but to rely on trial and error in order to try and get some clues.

More often than not the surrounding scenery can reveal information that relates to the puzzle so make sure you have explored the whole map before you begin. Also take not of how the puzzle is affecting the room as that can sometimes give you a clue.
