Gather Wood and Stone to Craft Tools

After you have crafted a Sleeping Bag, so you can create a spawn point you will need to start gathering wood and stone, so you can craft tools. In Rust you will be able to collect these resources simply by hitting them with the rock which is your default starting tool. Your first tools once you have the required resources will be the Pickaxe and Hatchet.

Pickaxe

The Pickaxe is a tool used to gather ore and rocks and can also be used as a melee weapon. To craft it requires x100 Wood and x125 Metal Fragments

Hatchet

The Hatchet is a tool used for chopping trees and dismembering corpses. To craft it requires x100 Wood and x75 Metal Fragments.

Gathering resources when you only have the Rock at your disposal at the start of the game takes time, you can however speed up the process considerably if you hit the red X which appears on trees and the sparkle that appears on boulders. Hitting these spots directly with your rock will enable you to get more wood and stone at once.
