Introduction

I'm always a big fan of game remakes. In fact, I think they should do them more often, as it keeps the gaming spirit alive. Do you guys remember the old Resident Evil game for the PS1? That was fun, but wait 'till you play the new remake for the Nintendo Gamecube. Capcom has created a truly frightening experience with an all new graphics engine, newly recorded dialouge, remade cutscenes, and a bunch of added features not seen in the original game. I recommend Resident Evil to anyone who intentionally wants to be scared, or just any action fan in general.

Graphics

Every bit of Resident Evil is so realistic, well, let's just say that the graphics make this game what it is: truly scary. Yes, the graphics are so good, they're scary. Resident Evil really showcases what the Gamecube can do, and gives players a much more frightening experience. During the course of this game, you'll encounter gruesome monsters that are as frightening as you can make imagine them to be. In fact, I've actually heard people say that Resident Evil's graphics are too sharp to be realistic, but as far as I'm concerned, any kind of graphics that scare the pants off of me gets the job done. Shadows and lighting are by far the best seen on the Gamecube, particle effects are excellent, and backgrounds are truly phenomenal. To tell you the truth, the in game graphics are probably worth checking out Resident Evil alone.

Sound

In a survival-horror game, sound is definately an essential part of the experience. The sound effects in this game are both gross and realistic, depending on what you want to make of them. They really add to the whole trip, as you can hear a monster running at you down hallways, but you can't see it because it is around a corner. Music, although sparse is heart-pounding and sets the mood for whatever is in store for you. Graphics and sound are both essential to literally scaring the socks off of you, and are the most you'll notice in a game of this caliber.

Gameplay

The reason that I gave "gameplay" a 7 out of 10 is mostly because of the controls. At first, your character will seem nearly unmoveable, with clunky control and movement. Exploring the huge environments and dodging enemy attacks becomes impossible at first. In fact, if it weren't for the game's auto aim function, fighting would be a difficult task. However, about three fourths through the game, you will eventually get used to the awkward control, and the game will be a classic. Puzzles accompany you throughout gameplay, which breaks up some of the action. Don't expect a silky smooth performance at first, but anyone could get used to it in time.

Lastability

You will probably pop in Resident Evil a couple times over, just to experience the whole thing again. If you like to thrill yourself many times, then by all means, go ahead and replay the game. However, the whole game is practically ruined, as you know what to expect, you can figure out the puzzles with ease, and you can tell when the enemies will scare you. The best thing about Resident Evil, is that it gives gamers a fun experience their second time through. Things that are added are different game modes you can play (and I'm not talking about difficulty modes), extra costumes, and new weapons, so this game is probably worth your second play through.

Overall

Overall, Resident Evil makes me recall my heart pumping as I jumped out of my seat more than once. This is the only game (besides Doom 3, of course) that literally had me cursing to my friends as I paused the game to take a breather from the thriller moments that were had in the game. Some advice to thrill seekers: Go in your room and shut the door. Turn off all your lights. Make sure you have a surround sound setup, and turn on Resident Evil.

Final Score: 88%
