Introduction

The game features Rayman, the yellow superhero, as he makes his way through various levels, battling pirates, climbing into caves, swimming, etc... Best aspect: graphics, sound and engaging levels. Worst aspect: having to re-visit levels endlessly to retrieve Lums and cages, having to refer online for walk-throughs because it's literally impossible to pass the game on your own unless maybe you're an experienced gamer (which I'm not).

Graphics

I really loved the graphics on this one.. The levels have amazing detail. There wasn't a level I didn't enjoy the landscape of. Also, the 3D is really cool on this game.. When you walk by things, they literally 'pop' out, or when you pass something it 'sticks' out of the screen behind you, kind of like you're being swiped by a leaf or piece of cave. The coloring is beautiful, too.

Sound

I have no problems with the music.. It's a little repetitive, but I'm not very picky with game sound-tracks. It picks up when it needs to, and speeds up / changes pace at all the right places. The pirate music (when you're going to beat the pirates) is actually quite scary and gives you a real feeling of being there.

Gameplay

I'm giving it a 7 only because while the game-play itself is interesting, re-visiting the levels too often takes away from the whole experience. The Lums should not have been made compulsory to pass the levels; they should only have been made to access special items or bonus levels. Overall, this aspect was annoying.

Other than that, the game-play itself in terms of controls, levels, color and graphics is really good.

One thing that 3D platformers often lack is a variety in the levels. With this game you're never just walking around and doing nothing but searching; it is very active in terms of bad guys, things to climb on, special doors, etc... The story-lines are also refreshingly brief and don't clog up game-play.

Lastability

I was going to give it less because the Lum-searching is almost unbearable at times HOWEVER... Rayman 3DS shows real promise and engagement in terms of graphics. And story-line. Despite having to go online to visit numerous walk-through videos and forums, I still think that once you find out how to do something--because of how engaging the game is when you DO figure out how to pass a level--you will want to go back and pass it.

Overall

Overall, it's not bad. Like I said, Rayman and the story line are endearing, graphics and levels are good. Lots of engagement, lots of action (never a dull moment). Even going back to previous levels can be SOMEWHAT fun (provided you're not going back 2 - 3 times to the same level). Overall, not bad.

Final Score: 78%
