How you angle your tank in World of Tanks is crucial as it can be the difference between taking damage and and the shell bouncing off.

To begin with it is important that you always have your tracks showing rather than the superstructure of the tank because tracks don't take any damage.

You then need to angle your tank by slightly turning askew of your opponent so that your armor is not directly perpendicular to their gun.

When you do this you will be increasing your tank's effective armour thickness based on the degree of the impact angle. This basically means you will be reducing the chance for a shot to penetrate.

The most important part of shooting in World of Tanks is not accuracy but rather knowing where to aim.

Regardless of what type of ammunition you use or how big the caliber of your gun is you will encounter problems if you are shooting at the thickest piece of armour on the tank you are targeting. Therefore tank knowledge and being able to identify it's weak spot are crucial for taking down a tank quickly.

If in doubt aim for the lower glacis, nearly all the tanks in the game can be damaged very reliably this way. Also the rear of most tanks tends to have the weakest armour.

Try to stay hidden behind houses, rocks, or whatever you can find as much as possible and only move from cover to cover when you are positive there are no enemy tanks in the area.

It is essential that you play as a team by communicating as much as possible with your teammates to coordinate attacks, and signify danger zones and most importantly always be patient and continually plan ahead.

In World of Tanks there are different classes of vehicles with each being better suited to a certain terrain or situation. The key therefore to being successful in the game is to choose a tank based on the map.

Light tanks are small and tend to not have much armour and lack firepower but they make up for this by being fast which makes them ideal for open maps where you need to get around as quickly as possible and be an elusive target.

Heavy tanks are the opposite, these tanks will be heavily armoured and have plenty of firepower but will be slow. This class of tank is ideal for city maps where you will be driving down streets and over rubble and through obstacles.

If you are new to World of Tanks it is recommended you start of by sticking to the American and British tanks, all of which are decent choices.
