The best way to invest your points is to put them into Break and Exertion. Then Strength followed by Armor, but don't touch Willpower at all (except for Eirik, Eyvind and Aleo). If you follow this rule you will discover that the extra point or two in Exertion and Break will reduce rounds per battle and save your party on a frequent basis.

In order to avoid making silly mistakes it is important that you take the time to carefully read the ability descriptions before you use them as some characters have area of effect abilities that can also do some serious damage to fellow party members if they are within it's range.

Leave weakened enemies alive rather than killing them in order to keep your opponents turn order crowded with useless characters. Ideally you want to take enemies down to one STR and then forget about them, if you kill the enemy it gives more turns to your opponents powerful characters which is something you want to avoid doing.

Every character in The Banner Saga 2 can equip one artifact providing they meet the minimum level requirement to do so. Artifacts can either be found during events or by visitiing the markets at stops in your journey and purchased using renown. Every artifact grants some kind of useful bonus that will help the character who possesses it in combat. As a general rule you should only use the artifacts you find and they should be given to characters in your party who will benefit from the bonus. For example, the Varl should be given artifacts that increase melee effectiveness and overall defense.

During the early battles of The Banner Saga 2 you will be able to progress by brute force alone but eventually you will begin to encounter enemy types that are significantly more dangerous and it will become immediately obvious you will need to diversify the roles of the characters in your party to give you more tactical options. Each of your characters have uniquie abilities aside from their standard attacks and it is these you should look to take advantage of.
