To increase the power of your vehicles you need to equip them with additional parts that the game dubs 'loot'. At the conclusion of a successful race these will drop and you will be able to use them to upgrade specific parts of your vehicle. Loot comes in different colours to signyfy how good it is but basically it's only worth swapping if the number of the loot is higher than the number on your current car part.
