Star Trek Online is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game based on the Star Trek franchise. The game is set in the 25th century, 30 years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. The alliance between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire has collapsed, and they are again at war. The Romulan Star Empire continues to deal with the fallout of the loss of their homeworld twenty-two years earlier, while the Dominion rebuilds its forces. The Borg Collective has re-emerged as a major threat. In Star Trek Online you are the captain of a ship and your objective is to complete the missions you acquire from communication with superior officers. These will often involve travel to a particular system, where space and ground objectives must be completed to earn rewards. Star Trek Online is available on PlayStation 4, X360, Xbox One, and PC. It is important to remember that energy weapons such as disruptors and phasers start dropping your weapon energy level if you fire 2 or more of them together. This means you can actually end up doing less damage if you overwork your ship. There are ways though you can mitigate this to some degree with devices, skills, and power distribution.
It is recommended that you invest in the Elite Services Starter Pack early in the game for 1,000 zen. This pack can be found in-game under C-Store/Services. The reason why this is a worthwhile investment is because it bundles a number of extra bank and inventory spaces, 2 Boff Slots and 3 Retrain Tokens in one discount pack for 1,000 instead of 2,250 zen. You will be able to earn the 1,000 zen required to purchase it by just playing the game for a couple of weeks.
All three of the careers you can choose from in Star Trek Online have their own strengths and weaknesses and the one you pick for your character will ultimately be determined on what your preferred playstyle is. Basically a Engineer captain is a tank that can absorb damage, a Tactical captain does damage, and a Scientist captain can drain, hold and heal. Regardless of which career you select all three careers can be buffed/compensated by various ground kit (weapons, armour, shield) and the ship they fly to further suit your playstyle.
The ships you can choose in Star Trek Online each have their strengths and weaknesses and ultimately the one you will choose will be the ship that best suits your playstyle. Listed below are some of the main types of ships you can get in Star Trek Online along with their strengths and weaknesses.
Escorts
This type of ship is able to do heavy damage with their dual heavy cannons, their downside is they have weak hull and shields. Escorts tend to be compact designs, very maneuverable and suit a 'fighter-like' playstyle.
Science Vessels
This type os ship specializes on healing, debuffing and damage through exotic powers like Gravity Well. They generally have average hulls but strong shields. Science Vessels are the mage/wizard class of Star Trek Online.
Cruisers
These ships deal average damage through all beams and have strong hulls and decent shields. They tend to have a low turn rate which does not make them very maneuverable. Cruisers are basically a ‘tank’ class.
Small Craft
Although small craft such as Shuttles and Fighters are not able to dea much damage and have weak hull and shields they make up for it by being the fastest ships in Star Trek Oline and are required for some unique missions.
If you are new to Star Trek Online and are unsure as to what race to choose it is recommended that you pick Alien as it will give you extra traits that enable you to customize it into different species. Once you are comfortable with Star Trek Online you can select a specific race for an extra 'alt' character as each playable race has it's own unique traits.

How do you get in to your ready room? |
To the top right you have a mini map. Below the map there is a small arrow pointing downwards to the bottom right of the mini-map. Click there and you will see an option to visit the star ship bridge. Once you have beamed to the bridge you will notice on your mini-map that there is a separate room then the one you are already in. That is the ready room or captain's office. |
