Purple Ink Spots
When purple ink spots appear on the screen it is to indicate that you are about to get caught. When the entire screen is covered purple it will count as getting caught. If you playing on the 'Easy' difficulty setting you will usually only encounter instant deaths. These also count as getting caught.
Collecting Ties
Remember that once you have collected a tie you never have to collect it again. This also includes loading checkpoints or leaving a level immediately after collecting the tie.
Invisible
If their direct line of sight is blocked you will become invisible to human non-playing characters. Look for ways to make this happen to prevent being caught.
Experiment
There is more than one way to outsmart the biologist and keep your real octopus identity safe so it is worth playing around with ALL the objects or paths in a level to see what you discover. There is always a chance you may find yourself a shortcut to the next level.
Practice
It is advised that you use the first few levels which are very easy to practice your walking and climbing skills so you get used to the game's mechanics for later in the game when the going gets tougher.
