God of War (2018) Cheats and Tips

It is important that you take your time in God of War as the game is full of nooks and crannies that you need to negotiate in order to find the puzzles that lead to chests that contain useful materials. Even dead ends will enable you to get Hacksilver, the main currency in the game and used for crafting, buying and upgrading your gear.

You are guaranteed to find Hacksilver in chests, you will also be able to get more of this currency by simply smashing everything you come across. This includes crates, vases, boxes, and hanging buckets, you can also get Hacksilver by ramming barrels and bodies when you are in a boat. If Kratos has a high Luck Stat you will be able to find more Hacksaw. To increase his Luck Stat you need to find Yggdrasil's Dew of Luck. There are two in the game and they can be found in the Lake of Nine. One behind Svartalfheim Tower in King's Hollow and the other behind Buri's Storeroom.

In God of War the Codex will enable you to get information on the enemies you encounter, after you have ecountered a specific enemy several times methods detailing how to defeat them will appear. It is essential therefore that you regualrly check the Codex to see if any new useful information has appeared that will help you to easily defeat that foe the next time you meet them.

There are 21 Norni chests in total and each of them will contain either an Idunn Apple or a Horn of Blood Mead which are upgrades for Kratos. For every three Apples you find you will gain health and for every three horns you will increase your rage up to a total of 3 upgrades each. The Nornir chests are each magically sealed and you must solve the puzzle to unlock it. Completing this task will give you the Idunn’s Orchard and Quick Tempered trophies.

God of War is an online world game and it is inevitable you will unwittingly venture into areas you are not sufficiently equipped for yet which will result in you being unable to solve a puzzle, get past an obstacle, or being easily slaughtered by the enemy. If you have entered such an area don't be afraid to move on and return later when you have adequately leveled up Kratos to deal with the adversity you need to face or have found what you need.

In God of War your equipment can be upgraded at Brok and Sindri's Blacksmith shop. At the dwarves' shop you will be able to see all the upgrades that are available to you along with their corresponding effects. It is important that you pay attention here and don't spend Hacksilver on a stat boost to then realise it's not an item you have equipped. You can easily avoid this from happening by double checking for the big 'E' which indicates it is equipped before you spend Hacksilver upgrading it.

This location becomes unlocked when you have found 4 Muspelheim Language Ciphers. They can be found in the purple cipher chests that have a white 'face' lock. There are more than 4 but those shown in the video below are the easiest to get. Once you have all four of them go to the Realm Travel Room and select Muspelheim as your destination. Muspelheim Realm is a bonus area that contains trials, needed for the 'Fire and Brimstone' trophy. Finding ALL the language ciphers in the game is required for the 'Trilingual' trophy.

This talisman has several benefits, it enables you to recover faster after being hit by an attack, it increases your defense when you are guarding with your shield and and it increases your parry window allowing you to reflect attacks and counter without requiring super precise timing. You can get the talisman within the first five hours of the game by heading to the Lake of Nine in Midgard and a location known as Stone Falls. The following video will show you exactly where to find it in about 10 minutes once you are there.

Kratos's son Atreus accompanies you all the time and to begin with he will not be that useful. However, if you invest XP and Hacksilver in buying better abilities and equipment for the boy you can upgrade him to become a good fighter who can take down distant and flying enemies with his bow. Your priority is upgrading Atreus bow and getting him a better quiver, later in the game focus on unlocking armours in order to increase his combat potential. Don't save your money on upgrading Atreus, he is worth investing in.

When you complete the main story you will unlock the Valkyrie locations. Each of the 8 Valkyrie locations are the domain to a different Valkyrie which you need to defeat in battle. Once you have defeated the eight Valkyries you will have acquired the head of each. Take these heads to the council of the Valkyries and you will unlock a 9th Valkyrie location which will be the domain of the Queen Valkyrie. Even on Normal difficulty setting these are tough battles so it is advised that you attempt them with you best armour and weaopns. You will need to have a chisel in order to gain access to the Chamber of Odin. The main reward for defeating Valkyrie in God of War is Valkyrie armour.

To upgrade the Blades of Chaos you must use a material called 'Chaos Flame' which you pick up during the story. This is done by getting the blades to level 4 and then in level 5 defeating the Valkyrie in Muspelheim who will upon it's death drop an item called 'Raging Inferno of Muspelheim', which you then need to take back to any shop. At a shop, go to 'Buy', followed by 'Resources' and click on the 'Chaos Flame' to trade it for the item you picked up from the Valkyrie. If you now put the Chaos Flame in the Blades of Chaos you will fully upgrade them. Completing this task will unlock the 'Why Fight It?' trophy.

You can play God of War from start to finish by just following the story but if you want to increase Kratos stats so he becomes a formidable character you will need to branch out and play the side missions as it is by doing those that you will be able to get more armour, upgrades, and enchantments to boost Kratos's stats. This is worthwhile doing as it will make some of the tougher side missions easier and help in the postgame with some of the things you can do.

In total there are 12 Treasure Map Locations and Dig Spots in the game. Finding and digging up ALL the treasures will unlock the Treasure Hunter trophy. None of the treasures are missable as long as you have the map. Without the map the dig spots will not appear. It is worth the extra effort finding these treasures as you can also get money and crafting materials from them. If you miss any treasures you can always get them after the story in Free Roam mode.

This amulet is a defensively oriented talisman that focuses on dodging rather than parrying like the Golden Talisman of Protection. When you have the Amulet of Kvasir equipped you will be able to dodge attacks before they happen as time will slow down, similar to Witch Time in Bayonetta. You can get the Amulet of Kvasir early in the game but later in the story than the Golden Talisman of Protection as you need to reach Alfheim and the Lake of Nine.
