.Here are some tips suitable for beginners to this game.
Freedom Planet 2 is a fast paced platform game that takes inspiration from a lot of different titles. When playing for the first time, you may be reminded of Sonic the Hedgehog, or Megaman. Similar to all of these titles, you have simple controls for your character that will help you navigate them through different stages.
Depending on the platform you're playing on, you can have different control inputs. It would be best for you to open the game's control settings and adjust to your preferences. You have directional inputs and then buttons for your jump, attack, special, guard, and pause. Perhaps you're more comfortable using jump on a different button, so change it to your liking.
.The Basic tutorial is a stage that you can go into and learn the basics of the game. If you're a returning player from the first game then this is optional. However, if you're a new player, then try out all characters through this stage. Not only will you learn things such as basic movement and actions, but you'll learn the controls of each playable character.
There are four characters you can choose from and they each have their quirks. From movement, speed, basic attacks, and special attacks, there will be a style that will suit your gameplay. Once you've get the hang of trying out which character you'd like to play as, you can learn how to travel up slopes into walls and ceilings as well as how to guard. Don't skip out on the tutorial!
If you have played the first Freedom Planet game, you'll remember that the classic and adventure mode were available choices when starting the game. Classic mode lets you play through stages quickly, and there aren't many cutscenes and voice acting there so you can focus on the action. Adventure mode on the other hand lets you experience the story with the scenes and dialogues.
In Freedom Planet 2 however, things have been changed. Classic mode is unlocked once you've completed Adventure mode with any character. The changes to classic mode will let you have a grid map instead so you can access stages quickly. You can play through which stage you want so it isn't a linear experience like Adventure mode.
.One of the new mechanics that have been added to Freedom Planet 2 is Guarding. If you check your controls, a button is assigned for the Guard function. Using this will let you avoid getting damaged for a certain number. However, you must be careful since there are some strong attacks that can't be fully guarded. Timing your guards will help reduce the damage you take however, so it's still a good feature to use.
Aside from guarding, there's an additional action that is made as well. Each action will depend on the character that you're using. For example, Lilac will use her blink dash, Carol will summon or store her motorcycle after using Jump Disc, Milla can spawn Phantom Cubes instantly, and Neera can enter her Focus State.
With the fast paced action that's ongoing, there may be times that you'll get overwhelmed with attacks and you end up getting defeated. What can you do after that happens? In Freedom Planet 2, a new mechanic is added which lets you use revivals in order to continue the game.
You have two options when trying to revive. First, you can head back to the last checkpoint at full health and then try to continue onward. And second, you can get back up at zero health from where you were defeated. Take note that this can be affected by health items that you equip. Once revived with zero health, you have a few seconds where you're invulnerable so trying to get back some HP would be good. Take note though, you cannot revive if your body is disintegrated, so be careful!
When going across some stages, you'll encounter rings that have a rainbow color. These are called Speed Gates, and you can pass through and activate its effects. A short timer will start, and your goal is to leave a trail of Tao Marks. Your goal is to create as long a trail as possible until the timer runs out.
Once the timer is completed, the Tao Trail will convert into Crystal Shards. With this, you can refill your energy meter. Collecting 250 shards will also grant you an extra life which is a nice bonus. Maxing out your crystal meter will also grant you an extra life. You'll also want to use 1000 pieces of crystal shards for a gold gem if you wish to do donations at the gallery and museum.
.There are item sets that you can equip when starting the game, and this can affect your gameplay in terms of difficulty. You can choose a Beginner Set, Normal Set, or Expert Set which will grant various effects. For the beginner set, you'll be able to have the 'Element Burst' and the 'Crystals to Petals' items. Also, this turns on auto guard and sets the continue cost to 50. The Normal Set on the other hand has no items, has auto guard turned off, and has a continue cost of 500.
If you want a challenge, then you can use the Expert Set which lets you get the 'Double Damage' and 'No Revivals' items. Auto guard is also turned off and you have a continue cost of 500. If you want to change up your challenges, try swapping sets in-between stages or in hub areas.
In Freedom Planet 2, you can now have Music Vinyls as collectibles which can let you listen to a song from the game's soundtrack. There are different ways for you to collect Music Vinyls in the game such as purchasing them with crystal shards, or acquiring them from treasure chests. The music that you obtain can also be played by the musician NPC in hub areas.
If you want to collect more music vinyls, make sure to check all shopkeepers across the different hubs. You can look for Ainia in Shuigang Palace, Digo in Adventure Square, Fawnstar in Paradise Prime, and Naomi in The Battlesphere. You can also focus on farming for crystals by completing battlesphere challenges while using brave stones so you can get more rewards.
