Coming Out of the Rough or Sand

In EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour it is inevitable that at some point you are going to misjudge a shot or send it flying a little too fast and find yourself out of bounds in the rough or sand. Knowing how to get yourself out of these situations can make a substantial difference to your score at the end of a round.

Coming Out of the Rough or Sand

On the easy setting of the game you do not need to worry about this as your club will automatically be chosen for you. All you need to do is aim for where you want the ball to go back on the course and swing. On the other settings however it is up to you to find the right club for the shot at hand.

If your ball is in the rough or sand you need to avoid wood clubs as these are designed for power on a smooth surface and will be useless in these situations. The clubs you need to use are your power and sand wedge, the one you use will depend on how close you are to the hole. You can also use a good iron providing the distance is right but otherwise you should stick with the smaller wedges. With a bit of practice you will instictively know which wedge you need to select and be able to get yourself back on the course.

How to get the Special Delivery Trophy

How to get the Special Delivery Trophy

To get this trophy you need to win the FedEx Cup. The FedEx Cup is a season long competition, whereby the winner is the person who racks up the most Fed Ex points during the year - not necessarily the winner of the last event. As a calender has not been included in the game the tournament schedule for the Pro Career mode is below. This will give you an idea as to where you are when attempting this trophy.

- Bioware Classic

- Arnold Palmer Invitational

- International Challenge

EA Sports Spring Invitational (Win for Invitation Only Trophy)

- Boston Championship

- The Players Championship

you.S. Open (Win for Open for Business Trophy)

- Mid Season Classic

The Open Championship (Win for Drinking from the Jug Trophy)

- Tiburon Championship

PGA Championship (Win for Wanamaking History Trophy)

- EA Charity Invitational

- Northeast Invitational - FedEx Playoff Event

- Deutsche Bank Championship - FedEx Playoff Event

- Orlando Classic - FedEx Playoff Event

Season Finale - FedEx Final (Win for Special Delivery Trophy)

Note: Before the 'Northeast Invitational' there is an event called the 'Pittsburgh Invitational'. The Pittsburgh Invitational is not part of the FedEx Cup.

To have a chance of winning the Fed Ex Cup you need to ensure that you have the most points leading into the tour championship (FedEx Final). Each tournament offers anywhere between 250-600 points towards your tally, depending on the event. It is not necessary to play in every event so if you have a decent lead and want to save time you can withdraw from events.

When you reach the FedEx Cup playoff events it is very important that you are careful when selecting to play or skip these events because each event nets up 2000 points for the winner and skipping could cost you the lead in the cup point.

Easy Trophies

Easy Full Foursome Trophy

To get this trophy you need to play an 18 hole round of Stroke Play in 'Play Now' with 4 golfers. This cbe done solo by playing a round with you controlling all 4 golfers via the 'Play Now' option. For this to work you must play as all 4 golfers. Using CPU players will not work and you must finish the round to get the trophy unlike the 'Play Online' trophies which are given to you when you start the game.

Easy Clean Sheet Trophy

To obtain this trophy you must play an 18 hole round of Stroke Play in 'Play Now' without getting a bogey. The St Andrews course is very straightforward, with a lot of short par 4 holes reachable in one shot. The par 3 11th is probably the toughest, and even that is easy enough playing safe to the middle of the green. You should not encounter any problems getting this trophy with the following settings.

- Course: St Andrews

- Hole Select: All Holes

- Tee Select: Red

- Pin Select: Monday

- Course Conditions: Average

- Wind Speed: 0 MPH

- Time Of Day: Noon

There are several ways in which you can get this trophy but the easiest by far is to load up an 18 round on the Battlefield 4 course 'Paracel Storm'. This particular course only has a par of 54 since it's made up of 18 holes of only par 3s. This means you could play badly on this course by going as much as +5 throughout your round and still unlock this trophy.

Ace Andrews Special Trophy

This trophy is obtained by getting a hole in one. The easiest way to do this is to select the Battlefield 4 'Paracel Storm' course and change the course settings to the following.

- Tee Select: Red(closest)

- Pin Select: Monday

- Course Conditions: Slow

- Wind Speed: 0 MPH

As all the holes in this course are par 3's you will have 18 consecutive chances to get a hole in one. You will probably find while attempting to get this trophy you will unlock the following trophies.

- Pin Seeker Trophy

Hit the flag stick

- Golf's Magic Number Trophy

Shoot 59 or better. This can be easily achieved on Battlefield 4 'Paracel Storm' which has a par of 54.

- Nothing But Cup Trophy

Hole a shot from over 100 yards

Easy Supernova Trophy

When you have earned 350 stars you will get this trophy. The challenges from which you can get stars comprise of:

- Wolf Creek: 62 Challenges

- Paracel Storm: 54 Challenges

- Coyote Falls: 58 Challenges

This means there is a total of 522 stars available. As you are be able to get 3 stars in each challenge it is not necessary to 3 star them all. Once you have 1 or 2 stars in a challenge move on to the next. While attempting this trophy you will probably unlock the Star Walk of Fame trophy which is obtained by completing all the challenges in Wolf Creek, Paracel Storm, and Coyote Falls.

Use Boosts in Night Club Mode

Boosts will be a huge help in Night Club mode so use them as much as possible to score points. There are a total of 9 different boosts which you can unlock and they each can be used to modify the ball's flight to avoid obstacles and land on targets. You can equip up to a maximum of 3 boosts so it is important that you learn which ones work best in a particular challenge so you can equip accordingly. Listed below are the boosts and their effect on the ball.

Nitro

Gain extra distance on your shot.

Super Spin

Double the spin on the ball, or backspin onto targets normally unreachable.

Anchor

Stop on a dime and drop straight down to the ground. Rotate your camera view in air to spot the target, then drop from the sky and slam down to the ground.

Pause

Stop the ball in mid-air to time shots and hit moving targets or avoid pesky obstacles.

Rocket

Provides a lift to the ball to hit unreachable targets.

Below Zero

Avoid bad lies by bouncing the ball off any terrain, including sand or water.

Nudge:

Obstacle in the way? Use Nudge to adjust in mid-air or while rolling on the ground.

Sticky

Use this to stop the ball from rolling, or stick to the ground like glue when it makes contact with the terrain.

Remote Control

Take control and steer the ball left and right to avoid obstacles, fly through rings, and roll through croquet gates.

Useful Tips

Remember to Update your Clubs

Remember to frequently update your clubs in Career mode as you will be unlocking new clubs as you progress through the game and these will be better clubs than what you already have in the bag.

Practice Ball Spin

Make sure you practice the ball spin techniques so you are able to control the ball as it will significantly help you get it closer to the hole. To apply spin to your shot so it rolls in a desired direction when it touches down on the ground you must push the left stick in that direction while the ball is in the air.

Play 1 Round in Career Mode

You can gain a substantial lead on the leaderboard in Career mode if you play 1 round through the full 18 holes in every tournament that has a trophy affiliated with it.

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Tips

Choose the Right Swing Mechanic

If you play golf games you will be familiar with the 'Classic' three-click format EA Sports Rory McIlroy's PGA Tour uses. Press the button once to set a little marker into motion on a meter. Press the button a second time the marker reaches the small, white 'power target' box, and finally press the button a third time when the marker swings back to reach the 'accuracy target' box.

Classic is probably the easiest format on offer to get the hang of, the other two - Arcade and Tour are for skilled players who know their way around a golf course. Arcade offers more control while Tour gives you the most flexibiity, but it requires a lot of precision.

EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour Gameplay

Aiming

The most important part of this game is aiming your shots correctly. At the start of every shot you need to consider the factors that affect the shot.

These factors include:

- Wind

- Elevation of the target

- Lie of the ball

- The amount of roll out you think the ball will have after it lands

While the white aiming mark will show you where you are currently aimed, the blue aiming arc will show you where your ball will actually be going, taking into account all of those elements such as wind, lie and elevation.

Shot Shaping

Just like in the real world shot shaping is important because regardless of which swing mechanic you choose, it enables you to change the angle of your shot, which impacts how the ball behaves when it's in the air or on the ground.

If you make contact with the ball at a higher point you will give it more lift, minimizing the bounce and forward momentum when it reaches the ground. Striking the ball lower will minimize loft, reducing the air time but increasing the roll distance. If you hit the ball on the left or right you will change it's in-air arc which will enable you to sail the ball around obstacles, such as trees.

You shape your shot in EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour by moving the right stick to adjust a set of crosshairs on the ball icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

Boost Power and Apply Spin

If you are playing in Arcade or Tour mode you have two extra options when you strike the ball. If you tap X on your controller during your swing you will be able to boost the shot power. To apply spin to the shot so when the ball touches down on the ground it rolls in a desired direction you must push the left stick in that direction while the ball is in the air.

Pick your Own Shots

Don't rely on EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour club picking and aiming target as it does a bad job on both counts. The auto-aim does not apply any shot shaping and tends to be wrong, particularly when you are lining up an approach to the green.

You will probably have more success picking your own shot instead of depending on the game to help you. For example, you will be able to loft balls when you need to pitch a shot into the green and there is the possibility of earning XP for 'advanced' shots which is basically any sho..
