Always Take a Spare Pair of Boots

In Death Stranding your footwear can get ruined quickly so it is essential that you always carry a second or third pair on your boot hook. Although as a last resort you can use Sandleweed, a plant found in the wilderness which once picked up will be added to your quick access menu and can then be used to wrap your feet it is far better to have spare boots handy.

Use your Binoculars

Don't neglect your binoculars as it is a useful piece of gear that will enable you to check distances, as well as heights to see if a fall is dangerous. In order to use your binoculars you simply have to press L1 on your PlayStation controller.

You will be able to use the binoculars to determine whether your 30 meter ropes are going to safely reach where you want to go, if the ropes are not long enough the numbers on your binoculars become red.

Unlock the Floating Carrier

Make sure you unlock the Floating Carrier by adding the Central Region Weather Station to the UCA. Once you have unlocked a Floating Carrier you will be able to carry your cargo behind you on a tethered floating trolley which will prevent it from getting damaged because if you trip or take a fall it will either disconnect or float to the ground.

This makes unlocking the Floating Carrier essential because if a package gets damaged you will need to return to the start location to redeploy the package and start the journey again. The Floating Carrier also helps prevent your stamina from draining as your body will not be carrying any wieght. Just keep in mind that Floating Carriers use Chiral Crystals as fuel.

Keep your Stamina Topped Up

It is important in Death Stranding that you continuously keep an eye on your stamina bar and keep it topped up as you will never know when you will need to make a run for it in order to escape from enemies.

To replenish your stamina bar when it gets low you simply have to stop whatever it is you are doing and wait for it to refill or by pressing the Circle button on your PlayStation controller. If a large portion of your stamina bar is greyed and it begins to flash you should head directly back to the facility so you can rest and get a Monster Energy drink from the canteen for a stamina boost.

Follow the Story for Crucial Gear

Avoid the temptation of making random deliveries to the different preppers you meet and instead follow the story. It is more beneficial to do this because large portions of Death Stranding involves walking over rocky and hard to cover ground and by sticking to the main story missions you will be given the opportunity to unlock some crucial gear that will make this easier.
