When you Ascend via the hero Amenhotep in Clicker Heroes your character will be knocked down to level zero and only retain certain things they collected such as rubies, Ancients, and achievements.

It is necessary for your hero to Ascend because doing so helps them to grow. It is important however that before you Ascend a hero and reset you make sure you have collected between 5-10 Hero Souls, the reason for this is when you Ascend each Hero Soul you have will grant you a 10% bonus for damage per second (DPS) inflicted.

You earn one Hero Soul for every 2000 levels gained across all your heroes. Hero Souls can also be won by taking on a Primal Boss, which begin showing up at level 100. The ideal time to Ascend a hero is when you find yourself unable to defeat a boss despite your best efforts.

Whenever you unlock and upgrade your heroes you will have access to magic spells that grant your hero a temporary boost of enegy which when used properly can easily defeat a tough boss or allow you to rack up plenty of gold for as long as the spell is active. It is important that you use these spells wisely at the right moment as they also come with a long cooldown period of time before they can be used again.

Make sure you always hire new heroes before you upgrade the heroes that are already in your stable. The reason for this is that newer, stronger heroes will be able to deal more damage to enemies power bars and they will have better bonuses. Always save up your gold to purchase two or three new heroes before leveling up older heroes.
