Introduction

I had been waiting for ages for the next edition of the brilliant Pro Evolution series, and my wait was finally over when the copy I ordered arrived last week. I cannot believe how dissapointed I was. Konami have completely ruined this game once brilliant, unmatched series....

Graphics

Graphically this game can't be faulted. Pro Evolution games are always excellent graphically, and always seem to show an improvement from the previous edition. Pro Evo 5 makes no exception to this rule with the crowd in particular looking much better.

Sound

Again no problems here, the sound quality and effects, along with the background music, are all up to the usual high standard which we have all come to expect. The only problem with this game is the gameplay, but what a huge problem this is, as I shall now detail.....

Gameplay

The players are completely unresponsive, they do annoying tricks all the time automatically which you have little control over, no one can dribble, a player with 97 for dribble acceleration, for example Ronaldinho, is no better than Djibrl Cisse with 70, meaning that you can't go on mazy runs, which for me anyway is one of the most enjoyable factors of football. Shooting is too easy, all the skill that you had to use in the last edition in terms of positioning, timing, foot, and power has now been pretty much diminished, and the refs are way way too strict. Passing is awful too. Players constantly make poor passes, or pass to the complete wrong player, even when their condition is on red, the best one. All in all, awful. They seem to have tried to make it more realistic, but they have failed drastically.

Lastability

It has all the standard features, leagues, cups, improved master league etc. But at the end of the day, the gameplay is so poor that you simply have little or no desire to actually play the game extensively due to a general lack of enjoyment and fun....

Overall

Everything you would expect is here, and most features have been improved, but oh what has happened to the gameplay? It's a tradgedy. What a let down. Lets hope they can rekindle the magic for the next edition. Lets hope, lets pray.....
All in all, if you want to enjoy a game of Pro Evo, get Pro Evo 4 back out, for this game will just annoy you.
