To get all the Pokemon in the game, you'll need the GBA Pokemon Games. They are Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Firered, and Leafgreen. With these games, you'll need to obtain the national dex and import the Pokemon you caught in these games into Diamond, or with the game in the GBA slot in the DS, catch certain Pokemon that corresponds to each game.
You can catch all the Sinnoh Pokemon in-game between Pearl and Diamond, however, but to get Kanto, Jhoto, and Hoenn Pokemon, it is necessary to have Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Firered, and Leafgreen.
You'll understand better if you get the game, and if you go to these pages:

There isn't much I can tell you about importing/migrating Pokemon from these gba games into Diamond until you get the game.
To catch all of them? You'll need Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Leaf green, and Fire red. For Diamond or Pearl, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Red, Blue, and Yellow aren't needed because they don't fit into the GBA game slot of the Nintendo DS.
No you can only get 149 (excluding dialaga:pearl or I don't know it's name) Pokemon without cheating..... But you can use palpark which you need a Pokemon gba pak (saphire, ruby, firered, leafgreen and emerald)
ps sorry 4 rainin on your catch every Pokemon with pearl or diamond
Ok, the best thing to buy with Pearl or Diamond, is FireRed, LeafGreen, and Emerald. You do need to buy other games to complete the Pokedex.
No, you can't catch every single Pokemon with Diamond & Pearl, just the 4th gen and several 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen Pokemon. But, instead of buying all those games and trading over, just buy an Action Replay for Nintendo DS and hack all the Pokemon. The Action Replay for DS is between I think $25.00-$30.00
YEs in matter in fact it is, to obtain all you have to have Fire red, leaf green, ruby, spahire. Those four you can migrate to Diamond/Peral. In simple words the Pokemon game has to be a Gba you cannot migrate Pokemon from gameboy color like Gold, Silver, Red, Crystal,Blue and yellow and any I missed. So the answer is you can buy Diamond and Peral and not migrate on guy and you will still have a great time with the game, but if your one of the people that wants to have them all, then you will have to buy all the gba games for Pokemon, that I posted above
No you can only trade from your game (diamond or pearl) to emerald, sapphire, or ruby. But you first have to get to pal park. If your reading this answer my question too!
Thanks Pokenerd456
With just Diamond or Pearl, you could only get the 150 in the original Sinnoh PokDex, but once you get the National PokDex, all 493 Pokmon are available, and you would need to get previous games such as Pokmon Fire Red, Leaf Green, Ruby, Sapphire, etc. However, if you went on Wi-Fi, or used the Global Trade Station (GTS) you can get them from people who used their games.
You can get a better understanding by looking on www.serebii.net, or Pokemon.Marriland.com, Marriland has the best Walkthrough and PokDex on the web currently, and some pretty solid forums for your Pokmon questions.
