First if you want to play co op online you must create a second user and seperate PSN account [in that user] but if you play offline you just need another user.once you have done that then you access the multiplayer menu go to co op,make sure the other controller is connected if it asks you would you like to connect to an online server just select no if you want to play offline if not then select yes select a stage and once the game has begun push pause go to the multi player menu and select split screen and the uther player should drop right in
