Bosses through Melee, World 1-4: Spoilers ahead.

Added:

Alright guys, here comes what is widely considered the last boss of the game. Now, I wasn't lying: Spoilers are ahead.

First off, if you're reading this while preparing to pass through the Fog, I'd like to congratulate you on getting past that freaking dragon.

Congratulations!

Now, Allant can be a tricky foe. Like most bosses, he won't be stunned easily, so the Meat Cleaver is not the best option here. He has an assortment of attacks, but you have a few advantages in this fight.

1. He clearly telegraphs his attacks. Whether it's by slowly raising his sword, or jumping into the air screaming bloody murder, you'll always know when he's getting ready to attack.

2. Windup time. Nearly all of his attacks have a good amount of windup time to them. This gives you a chance to dodge, block, or attack.

3. The room. The room has a lot of space, and it's completely open. As a melee character, this actually works in your favor, as you'll have a lot of room to move around King Allant without worrying about getting stuck on a piece of some obscure statue.

Next, I recommend you wear some light armor, and use a large shield in combination with a spear. Also, the Thief's Ring will be next to useless in this fight, so I recommend wearing something like the Clever Rat's Ring, or the Regenerator's Ring. If you're highly confident in your abilities, you could wear a Ring of Avarice. But then, if you were highly confident, you wouldn't need me, would you? :P

And remember, his lowest defense is his Fire Defense, so if you have Turpentine, or a high damage Dragon weapon, you should use it.

As I said before, King Allant has an assortment of attacks. His absolute favorite thing to do however, is toss some magic blades at you. Now, don't be mislead by the "magic" part of that: He almost always launches these as part of his melee attack.

One of his attacks is a basic three(3) hit combo. He bring his sword up, slashes down to the right, brings it up again, slashes down to the left, then brings it horizontally across his body, from left to right, and sends out a magic blade. This is a short range attack.

He may also rush you at a short-medium distance and try to bring his sword straight down on you.

He also has an attack where he will leap up and toward the player, while screaming, and attempt to slash you. He sends a magic blade out with this attack, so put a good distance between him and your self when this comes. This is a medium-long range attack.

He may also bring his sword straight up, then bring it straight down, sending yet another magic blade at you. This is a medium-long range attack.

He also has an attack where he leaps back and swings his sword(which is Soulbrandt, if anyone is wondering) in your direction, sending out yet another blade of magic. This is generally a medium range attack.

He also has a dash attack that he uses to quickly close distance and do some pretty hefty damage. He is capable of doing multiple dashes to chase you if you move too much before he attacks. This attack also sends out a magic blade, so roll to the side. Generally a long range attack.

What is possibly his most dangerous attack, is also your best chance to attack him. He will bend over, with his sword pointing down, and charge an attack. A ball of magic will form at the tip of his blade, and, when completed, will unleash a devastating area of effect explosion. However, the windup time leaves him vulnerable to your attacks, which will interrupt his own attack. However, the long windup, combined with the rather long duration of the spell also make it an excellent opportunity to heal yourself if you get away in time.

The only attack more dangerous is his Soulsucker spell. This spell causes extreme damage, and steals one Soul Level from the player. This means he also takes all the Souls that you used to get to that level. If you die by this, or any attack after being hit by this, the stolen Souls will be placed in your bloodstain. Killing him after being hit by this does not restore your Souls. Avoid this attack at all costs. It has slow windup, but that does not make it an opportunity to attack. This attack is telegraphed by his hand glowing as he pulls it up and back. He will then take a half-step forward and try to grab the player. Do not let him do this.

The key to beating King Allant is to be evasive, and know when to attack. One of the best times to attack him is right after his dash attack. When he dashes toward you wait until the right moment, and roll to the side. You should be back up and ready to hit him before he even lowers his sword. For all his other attacks, keep your shield up and be ready do dodge. His AoE attack gives you quite a bit of time to hit him, but that time can be better spent healing yourself, or by giving your hands a quick break from trying to strangle you controller. Always be watching for his Soulsucker spell, as it truly is devastating to be caught by it. Don't be afraid to use the room either. You have a lot of space-try to lure him into dashing at you.

On one final note, be aware that King Allant can move with sudden bursts of speed, dashing to either side or backward quickly.

There's not much more I can tell you to help with this boss.

Good luck.
