Species Tips

Added:

These are some tips on the different species, surprisingly enough. Anyway, here they are:

Xeno: The Xenos are perfect for ambushing. Move quietly up to your target, and hit him when his back is turned. Your best bet with these guys is to stay on the walls, as this gives you two significant advantages. First of all, most FPS players are used to only having to watch the ground or the tops of buildings, which means they usually won't expect an attack from above or the sides. Never underestimate the power of this ability. This can quickly and easily turn the fight in your favor. The other advantage is possibly even more important. When you're crawling on a wall or ceiling you can pull Heavy Attacks off much more quickly than if you were on the ground. You will simply shoot your tail straight out, and if you hit your opponent will be knocked to the ground, giving you time for a follow-up attack. These advantages are best used together. If you can master both of these, you will be a force to be reckoned with.

Marine: Keep moving. This is very important. The last thing you need is to be camping so that you can kill the Xeno that's been sprinting around, only to have him pull a stealth kill from behind you...or worse, be hit by a Combi Stick(because that's just embarrassing, trust me, I know). Use your Motion Sensor, but don't rely on it completely. Also learn when to not use your flashlight. It's a judgment call really, but it just might save you. The main thing to remember when you're playing as a Marine is to use common sense. If you hear hissing coming from around that dark corner don't go barreling in guns blazing. Try to give corners and dark spots a good amount of space. Watch everywhere, surprise is a Xenos best weapon, just as much as the Predator. Always keep a good ear out, and watch for the distorted effect the Predators cloaking makes. If you think you see it go ahead and pop off a couple of rounds. Bright fluorescent green blood is a tell-tale sign you've hit something, and a hard one to miss. Try to avoid closed in spaces, but this is AVP. You'll have to face them sometime. However, you can still minimize how many times you have to go through those areas. One more thing: If you see an enemy coming at you you'll have to make some quick decisions. First you have to identify the species. If they're running at you it's most likely a Xeno, but it could be a less cowardly Predator, or a Predator trying to get up high. Which means it's also important to know your surroundings. If it is a Xeno, look at how far away it is. If it's a good distance away(20 feet maybe?)shoot it to hell. If it's closer it's probably within Leaping range, so you'll want to block immediately(If you're knew to AVP: Leaping is when an Alien/Predator makes a large jump towards you and attacks at the same time). This way if they do Leap at you, you won't be knocked to the ground, and they'll have to work for their kill. If you're lucky, you can throw a counter attack and knock THEM to the ground instead, and finish them off. If you can't do this, and they instead continue and get behind you, you'll have to move fast. You can either a) turn around while shooting, b) turn around then block again, or c) turn around, assess the situation, and respond accordingly. NEVER turn around while blocking, you'll move far too slowly. C will take time and a good amount of skill(and luck) but it works the best it you have these, and goo reflexes. Preds will act mostly the same, except more straight forward and brutal. Instead of trying to get behind you, most of the time they instead use their Heavy Attack. So, basically, when you're playing as a Marine, just use your brain.

Predator: The ultimate camper. If you decide to use him otherwise, kudos to you. I'll start off with a general overview of the Predator. The Pred has a variety of weapons at his disposal, so don't be shy about using them. You could also find one that you like above the other and just try and get good with that one weapon. The Predator also has a cloaking device to use. This makes him nearly invisible, but shorts out if you step into water. I say nearly invisible because even though he's completely transparent, the eyes still glow yellow, and you can see his outline if you look closely. It creates a sort of "distorted" effect around him, so don't throw caution to the wind just because you're cloaked. He also has three different vision modes. The first is normal, what everyone sees. The next is Thermal Vision, which highlights Marines and other Preds. The last is Xeno Vision, which highlights Xenos. When you're playing a match try and figure out who the biggest threat is. If the competion is mostly Xenos, go with the Xeno vision. Remember to cycle through the other modes though too. Marines will be practically invisible in this mode, except for(you guessed it!) their flashlights. Yeah, the flashlight thing is starting to make sense now, isn't it? Always keep on your toes, and never assume you're safe. If you got into that tree, the Xenos can get on it too. In about five different ways. The Predator also has a zoom feature in it's mask. There are three levels of zoom, but you probably won't use them much. They're more for fun than anything else really. Let's get a little more in depth. The Predator has five different weapons(all of which are one hit kills...until you try using them)that all have slightly different uses, as well as a cloaking device. The Plasma Caster is the most heavily used(spammed)because it is the most powerful(cheap). It can be charged up from a weak, but quick, shot to a powerful one hit kill that is, admittedly, fun to use just to watch your enemies be blown apart. However, when you charge your shot up those iconic red lasers will appear to track and lock on to your opponent. Your opponent can see them, and use them to find you. The Plasma shot will track them though, so if you charged your shot up and then got spotted you can simply let it fly and duck for cover. This is best used at long-medium range while cloaked. The next most used is the Smart Disc. I don't have a great understanding of this particular weapon, so I don't have much advice on it. Basically, you throw a small disc that you can(somehow) control by using the right Analog stick to move the targeting lasers to where you want the disc to go. I never have much success with this, but I recommend you try and learn it, as it's a great ability to have. The disc will bounce around a bit and come back to you, making this a good weapon to throw into tight quarters, but it's still a more medium range weapon. You also have Proximity Mines, which are generally just placed in random areas on the map by Preds hoping for an easy/cheap kill. Next is the Combi Stick. This is purely a long range weapon. This is where the zoom feature comes in handy. This is a hard weapon to use, as you have to aim perfectly. Not only that, but you also have to account for the time it spends in the air. A hard weapon to master, but invaluable once you do. Not to mention a constant pain to the other team. If you really want to, this can be used in CQC, but it's dangerous, especially with how long it takes to get ready.
