Need For Speed: Carbon is another installation to the series. The game includes
the famed tuner cars, such as the Skyline, RX7, Lancer Evolution VIII, and the
Supra, as well as famed exotics, which include the Gallardo, the GT, the SLR
McLaren, and many more. There is also inclusion of muscle cars, including the
Challenger, the Challenger concept, the Camaro, the concept Camaro, and many
more.

Another installment to the Need For Speed Series. There are many new cars in
this game, including concepts like the Dodge Challenger and the Audi Le Mans
Quattro. Along with standard parts there is an autosculpt feature that allows
you to customize the size, height, and look of spoilers, body kits, and more!
You start off in a race a long time ago that gets busted by cops. You manage to
get away safe and sound. After your adventure in Rockport (depicted in Need For
Speed: Most Wanted), you come back. Not everyone likes you. You have to make it
up to the top with your crew and become the number one racer yet again. Enjoy.

Cars are organized by class and tier. Class is the type of car, sorted by
either...
MUSCLE - Cars that are fairly expensive with blindingly fast acceleration but
poor handling and fairly poor top speed for some of them.
TUNER - Cars with slower acceleration and top speed but with incredible handling
at a cheaper price.
EXOTIC - The ultimate car that has the best stats for handling, top speed, and
acceleration; however, these stats come with one hell of a price.
Cars are also organized by tier. The higher the tier, the better performing and
more expensive the car. A tier 1 tuner, for example, only costs 20 to 40 grand,
but an exotic from tier 3 may cost as much as 200 grand plus, not to mention
the increased price of upgrades. Also, a tier 1 set of upgrades will not work
on a tier 3 car.

Coming from a person who is on their third career, I decided to give you some
advice as to picking cars.
�Don't pick Muscle as your first car for your first career. It often slides
uncontrollably through turns, and is just a pain in the butt for new players.
While the acceleration stat may appeal to you, pick the Tuner or Exotic catagory
so you can control your car.
�When upgrading a tier, make sure you have some available upgrades for that tier
of cars. While everyone else may be driving a higher tier, a stock tier 2 car
will most likely perform worse than your tuned Tier 1 car. Just keep your car
until you are sure you can get a better one.
�Don't buy a car that is worth all your money. You have no money to tune it with
otherwise. If you want to get a 200 grand car when you only have 205 grand, that
leaves you with 5 grand for upgrades, and that isn't even worth a race package
Turbo (for tier 3 vehicles).

Notice how you have no territory. The four main areas are owned by either
Stacked Deck, Bushido, 21st Street, or TFK. All the other crews only have one
area of territory that they soon lose to the other person that owns a part of
the city, but they do fight to get it back. You have to win 2 of the races that
are presented in a small area to own that area. Once you own all of the small
areas within the part of the city, the crew leader who owns the area will come
looking for you. You challenge him to a city race and then race him in the
canyon. If you succeed in beating him in the canyon, then you own his territory,
which means no more random encounters if you are driving in that territory.
Fortuna residents use Exotics, Kempton residents use Muscles, and Downtown
residents use Tuners. Depending on the car you choose in the beginning, you
will start your career in a different territory. You will not start in
Silverton, because that is where you go at the end of the game. All the lower
territory bosses use Tier 2 cars, and Silverton uses Tier 3 cars. There is also
the aspect of Zone Heat, which increases in a certain area depending on how
often you race in it. Zone heat is a measurement of how often the cops will
show while you are racing in an area.

As you know, there are four main crews: Bushido, 21st Street, TFK, and Stacked

However, there are also smaller crews, such as Black Hearts and Los Colibres.
These smaller crews often hold only one small area of land at a time and never
own a part of the city. They are just there to bug you and the other four main
crews out there. These guys are the ones who take you into a defensive race
to make sure your area of land stays in your ownership. If you decide not to
race, you lose your land automatically. A defense race is only worth small
change and is already a race you have beaten before. As with the other main
crews, the smaller crews drive a certain kind of car. All the crews and their

In the beginning, all the crews hold some type of land. As the game progresses,
the main crew takes over all of the land in their continent while the smaller
crews lose all their land. You are to take over the four main areas of land.
As stated before, these crews will pop up and force you into a defensive race
or take another crew's territory, so make sure you know what you are doing.

While all these other crews may make you feel jealous, you will have a crew just
as big, maybe even bigger. There are six total people who will want to join your
crew, and each has a special ability. There are crew members in the race who are
either called Scouts, Drafters, or Blockers. Scouts look around the road to look
for shortcuts and tell you ahead of time where they are. Blockers do anything to
stop a car, from spinning it out to stopping it by slamming the brakes. Drafters
allow you to follow them to gain a boost of speed, and you can take corners alot
faster if you stay in their slipstream. There are also different catagories that
involve your career, which include Fixers, Mechanics, and Fabricators. Mechanics
get you parts for less cash. Fixers lower car heat and get you extra bonus money
for winning a race. Fabricators are people that unlock Autosculpt parts for you.

This is the entire reason the game was made. To race. Without racing you would
just customize the cars. This game would be boring, as is this string of
sentances. Well, here are the races.
- - - C I R C U I T - - -
Circuit is when you race a certain course for a certain number of laps (in this
game, the circuit races in career mode always have two laps), and the first one
with all the laps finished across the finish line is declared the winner. Here,
a scout is great to use because they leave that greenish-yellow dotted line to
show you where the shortcuts are, and you don't have to suddenly slam on the
brakes, hit speedbreaker, and slam into a wall just to take a shortcut. You can
actually be prepared. Also, if you hit a certain Pursuit Breaker, you can leave
it there for your opponents to hit. Remember where it is, though!
- - - S P R I N T - - -
Sprint is where you race from point A to point B, and the first one to cross the
finish line wins. You can tell how far you have gotten in the sprint by looking
in the upper left corner of your screen, your progress shown in percentage. A
drafter is good here because you can get through the course quick enough and
take the turns more quickly, because there isn't as much room for error in a
sprint than in a circuit.
- - - D R I F T - - -
Drift is where you slide your car, avoiding the walls and or falling off the
cliff, and get points relative to how you drift, how fast you drift, how long
you drift, how many drifts you have connected together, and the angle you drift
at. You always drift alone, and you drift in two settings. You can drift in an
enclosed circuit with two laps, which gauges your multiplier by how many drifts
you connected in a row, and also includes a bonus zone lining the wall to
increase points. Downhill drift is where you drift in the canyon with no bonus
zones, no laps, and the chance you could fall off the cliff and lose. The
multiplier is gauged by how many "sections" you have drifted through without
hitting a wall. Don't be too reckless in Downhill drift, or else.
- - - C H E C K P O I N T - - -
Checkpoint is where you race alone in the city. There are predetermined markings
on the course that you have to pass by in a limited amount of time. If you don't
make it in time, you lose. All checkpoints are sprints. Here, just try to
memorize the course through replays if needed, to find any areas you could cut
through without losing too much speed and also finding shortcuts, since you do
race alone, which means no drafter or scout.
- - - S P E E D T R A P - - -
Here, there are traps in the road. You go past them, and they take how fast you
were going (in a numerical value) and add it to your score. The player with the
highest total MPH or KM/H in the end wins. A blocker might be a nice touch to
slow someone to a halt right before the speedtrap, but a drafter is better
because you can accelerate faster, take corners faster, and have a higher top
speed, but only for a short time.
- - - C A N Y O N - - -
Canyon is a unique type of racing that takes place in two parts. The first is
where you follow the opponent and stay on them as close as you can, gaining
points depending on how close you follow. On part two, the opponent follows
you and the closer they follow, the more points you lose. If you make it to the
bottom and still have some points left, you win. You can also win by passing the
opponent and staying ahead in the first part, getting really far ahead of the
opponent for ten seconds in the second part, or if the opponent falls off the
cliff. Note that you can also lose in these ways. And yes, you heard me right,
you can fall off a cliff and lose the race. Just take certain turns in which
you can fall off the cliff carefully, and be aggresive to try to lose your
opponent or gain on him at the safer parts. If you can get a clear shot to knock
your opponent off the cliff before you fall off, do so.
- - - R A N D O M E N C O U N T E R S - - -
If you are racing in someone else's territory, chances are they will see you and
start to follow you. If they challenge you and you accept, you choose a finish
line, and from where you are, you race to that finish line, trying to beat your
opponent. You don't get too much money for these races, but they can be fast and
they do net you reward cards if you do enough of them.

This is where you can get creative. Take your choice from many body kits, rims,
spoilers, you name it. You can also AUTOSCULPT your parts, meaning you can
decide how low your roof is, how wide your grille is on your bumper, etc.
