The game is set in Palmont City, it has a similar feel to Rockport City but the graphics are awesome and a LOT better than Most Wanted. ---------------------------------------- Facts ---------------------------------------- o This is the fifth Need for Speed title on the PS2, GameCube and Gameboy Advance o This is the third Need for Speed title on Nintendo DS and the PSP o This is the first Need for Speed title on the PS3 and Wii o This is the second Need for Speed title on the Xbox 360 o This is the third Need for Speed title for Mobile phones o This is the tenth Need for Speed title on the PC 1.4 - Controls ---------------------------------------- Menu Navigation ---------------------------------------- Left Stick or D-Pad - Highlight Selected Feature X - Accept Triangle - Cancel ---------------------------------------- Gameplay Controls ---------------------------------------- D-Pad Left - World Map/Move Vinyl (in Safe House Vinyl Customization) D-Pad Right - SMS/Move Vinyl (in Safe House Vinyl Customization) D-Pad Up - Enter Event/Shop/Move Vinyl (in Safe House Vinyl Customization) D-Pad Down - No Use/Move Vinyl (in Safe House Vinyl Customization) Left Analog - Steering Right Analog - Camera Control (where applicable) Start - Pause Menu X - Accelerate (Pressure Sensitive*) Circle - Look Back Square - Brake (Pressure Sensitive*) Triangle - Activate Crew Member L1 - Nitrous L2 - Shift Down R1 - E-Brack (Pressure Sensitive*) R2 - Shift Up/Showcase (in Safe House/Car Lot) R3 - Speed Breaker L3 - No Use/Update Vinyl (in Safe House Vinyl Customization) Note: Pressure sensitive controls respond to various degrees of pressure. That means the harder you press something, the more effective it will be. For example, the harder you press X, the faster you will accelerate. This feature is obviously a lot easier to use with a steering wheel. 1.5 - Car List The cars in this installment are divided into three classes: o Muscles o Tuners o Exotics These classes are further divided into three Tiers which are a classification of performance. The Tier system is implemented so as to help gamers indentify which car they are going to need if they can't defeat any opponents (even when their cars are maxxed out), the higher the Tier, the better. ---------------------------------------- Muscle Cars ---------------------------------------- Tier 1 o 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS o 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 o 2005 Chrysler 300C SRT-8 Tier 2 o 1971 Dodge Challenger** o 1969 Dodge Charger R/T o 2006 Dodge Charger SRT-8 o 2006 Ford Mustang GT o 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner o 2006 Pontiac GTO o 2005 Vauxhall Monaro VXR Tier 3 o 2006 Chevrolet Camaro Concept* o 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 o 2008 Dodge Challenger o 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10 o 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 o 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 o 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda ---------------------------------------- Tuner Cars ---------------------------------------- Tier 1 o 2004 Lexus IS300 o 2007 Mazda MazdaSpeed3 o 2003 Mazda RX-8 o 1992 Nissan 240 SX* Tier 2 o 1999 Mazda RX-7 o 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX o 2006 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT o 2005 Renault Clio V6 o 1986 Toyota Corolla GT-S (AE86) o 1992 Toyota MR2 o 2006 Volkswagen Golf R32 Tier 3 o 2004 Infiniti G35 o 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO IX MR o 2006 Nissan 350Z o 1999 Nissan Skyline R34 o 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi o 1999 Toyota Supra ---------------------------------------- Exotic Cars ---------------------------------------- Tier 1 o 2006 Alfa Brera o 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK500 Tier 2 o 2004 Aston Martin DB9 o 2007 Jaguar XK* o 2004 Lotus Elise 111R o 2006 Lotus Europa S o 2005 Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG o Porsche Cayman S Tier 3 o 2007 Audi R8/LeMans Quattro o 2003 BMW M3 GTR o 2005 Ford GT o 2006 Koenigsegg CCX* o 2006 Lamborghini Gallardo o 2004 Lamborghini Murcilago o 2006 Lamborghini Murcilago LP640 o 2004 Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren o 2006 Pagani Zonda F** o 2006 Porsche 911 GT3 RS o 2006 Porsche 911 Turbo S o 2004 Porsche Carrera GT - Available in Career Mode * - Only available in Collector's Edition ** - Only available in EA Downloader Version Note: EA downloader Version is an online-only version and can be bought from the Need for Speed Carbon Official Site. http://www.ea.com/nfs/carbon/us/home.jsp Note: Some cars can only be driven in certain modes, for example: The Porsche 911 Turbo S can only be used in Challenge Series [Car list acquired from www.nfsunlimited.net] 1.6 - Game Modes o Career Mode : This is where you start your career and continue the story to retain all your territory. (You get to choose which class you wanna start with) o Challenge Series : This mode lets you perform challenging tasks on pre- defined cars. Each task has three modes of difficulty: Bronze, Silver and Gold with Bronze being the easiest. When you complete a "Bronze" task, you'll unlock its silver counterpart and so on. There are 36 Challenges in the game. o Quick Race : This mode is where you can just race. First you choose which track you want to race on, then you can choose between multiplayer and solo modes, on to Tracking Mode is a new option, choose between Ranked and Unranked, this will determine if you want to update your stats with this race. Also, if you selected Ranked, the Shadow Option is enabled, through this option, you can Record a shadow or Race against a previously recorded one. The last option on this screen is "NOS", select On if you want to use Nitrous in the race and Off if you don't. Then you choose the car you want and then the Transmission (Automatic or Manual). o Reward Cards : Reward Cards are basically tasks that you perform (mostly in Career Mode) to unlock stuff. However, you have to perform all four tasks in one card to unlock what the card has to offer. There are altogether 25 Reward Cards with 4 tasks each, thus a total of 100 tasks. 1.7 - Race Types o Canyon : These races are held in one of the four canyons surrounding Palmont City. Unlike all other races, these races are held in two parts and do not allow the use of Nitrous. In the first stage, you are chasing your opponent and points will be awarded to you depending on how close you are to him/her, when you reach the finish line the first stage ends. In the second stage, you are ahead of your opponent and your points are being deducted depending on how close your opponent is to you, if you are able to reach the finish line before your points reduce to zero, you will be the winner. However, in both stages, if the chaser gets ahead of his opponent and remains ahead for 10 seconds, he wins. o Checkpoint : These are simple checkpoint races, where you need to reach a pre-defined number of locations on the map before the time runs out. o Circuit : These are the races in which a closed course is defined where you and your opponents race for a pre-defined number of laps, whoever finishes first, wins. o Drift : Drifts return from Underground 2 after being omitted in Most Wanted. There's a new drift mechanism, so first of all you need practice. There are two types of Drifts: Closed circuit and Point A to Point B. In Closed Circuits, there are Green Markings on the course which indicate the start of a "Drift Zone" and Red Markings which indicate the end of a "Drift Zone". Drift Zone is the place where your drift points are counted. The drift goes on for a pre-defined number of laps. In Point A to Point B Drifts, there are no markings on the course and drifts are counted everywhere. The Winner in drifts is the person with the most points. o Speedtrap : In Speedtraps, there are a pre-defined number of Speedtraps. The goal is to get through them at the highest speed. The winner is the one with the highest total. However, if a racer finishes before you, Speed Penalty is imposed on you and your speed is constantly deducted until you reach the finish line. o Sprint : Sprints are simple Point A to Point B races in which the goal is to finish first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 2 - Career Mode ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2.1 - The Story This game is set in Palmont City. Before going to Rockport city, you were cruising the streets of Palmont city, in your last race, the cops tracked you and all the cars were tranquilized near the finish line...all the cars, except yours. Apparently, the race was for big cash. When everybody was getting busted you fled with the cash (later known to be junk), thanks to your girlfriend. After being the best in Rockport, you are returning to Palmont City to claim what is yours... ...After the FMV, you are given control of the car (The BMW M3 GTR from Most Wanted) and Cross is chasing you in his Corvette, this pursuit ends when you drive into a truck. Your car gets totaled and you are nearly caught when Darius arrives and tells Cross not to hunt racers down without his permission. When Darius is talking to you, your former girlfriend Nikki arrives and apparently she is quite angry with you, but Darius says you're gonna race in Palmont now and tells Nikki to take you to the garage. Note: If you get caught by Cross, you'll have the option to Restart or End your Career. 2.2 - Choosing your Car Okay...Which car should you choose. It completely depends on your driving style. If you like to drive smooth with less crashes, choose Tuner. If you like to drive rough and accelerate REALLY fast, choose Muscle. And if you like to drive fast...Really fast, at high speeds, choose Exotics. Of course, there is no restriction and if you like a certain class, take that car and adapt to its driving style. The three choices that you are given at the beginning are: Mazda RX-8 ----------------> Really good Handling Chevrolet Camaro SS -------> The best Acceleration Alfa Brera ----------------> The highest Top Speed You can test drive each of the three cars and you should use that to your advantage. (Take a look at the 2nd night race in 2 Fast 2 Furious to get an idea of how a Muscle handles). I chose the Mazda RX-8 because I like Tuners and I wanted to drive a Skyline. After you choose your car, there's a short tutorial on how to efficiently use your crew members in a race. 2.3 - The First Pursuit Pursuits are back in this game but this time, they don't really play an important role so they will rarely bug you. After the tutorial, Nikki leaves and you are left with Neville...During a short sequence, Neville tells you what has been happening in Palmont City, when suddenly the cops find you two and the pursuit starts. While, Neville says "Keep on the pedal", I disagree. The best method is to deactivate all the three Pursuit cars. Just enter either the left or the right road, slow down a bit so that one of the cops can catch up with you then slam their cars to the wall, if it doesn't deactivate, Spin 180 by slamming the e-brake and crash into him again from the side (make sure you have some speed), do the same for the next two cars and you're free. 2.4 - About the Crew Another new feature in Need for Speed Carbon is the introduction of crews. After you've successfully evaded the pursuit, a message from Neville pops up and he tells you to reach his garage, marked as a star on the map. When you are there, Neville's Bio Video will be shown to you and you'll have to option to choose your first crew member, there isn't any choice as you have to choose Neville, he's a Blocker and a Fixer. Then you choose your crew logo, which you can change later and then your Crew name, which you cannot change. A Crew is like a team. Eash member has an In-race and a Garage ability. In-race Abilities Garage Abilities Blocker Fixer Drafter Fabricator Scout Mechanic You must have experienced the In-race abilities in the short tutorial by Nikki but here's a summary: o Blocker : Blockers are like cruise missiles on the road. Whoever you choose, gets slammed by your blocker leaving your path clear for a limited time. o Drafter : Drafters get in front of you so you can draft behind them and after a short period of time you can de-activate them by pressing Triangle to slingshot past them. o Scout : Scouts are the only crew members which get in action as soon as the race starts, they lead you through each and every shortcut on the track so that you can reach the finish line before your opponents. They leave a short trail and green dots on the map so that if you fall behind, you can use your map to find the shortcut. Here are the Garage abilities: o Fixer : Gets you extra money and can lower heat on your car. o Fabricator : A fabricator is what you need to AutoSculpt your Body Parts. o Mechanic : Gets you discounts on cars and parts. [Thanks to ryanroberts for correction, since he mailed first] These abilities are mentioned in detail as Race or Career bonus. Race bonus is applied if that crew member is your Active Member and Career Bonus is applied if you have hired that Member. For example: Neville's Race Bonus : Zone Heat does not increase after the race. Neville's Career Bonus : 200+ cash on each win. So if Neville is your Active member, your Zone Heat will not increase after the race. And if you have hired Neville, you'll get 200+ cash on each win until you fire him. 2.5 - The First Race Depending on the car class you choose, you'll start in the area where that class rules. Here's a table to explain: Class Area Exotics Fortuna Muscles Kempton Tuners Downtown Note: There's no way to start in Silverton. You have three choices for your first race. If you have chosen the Muscle or Exotic class, you'll have a Checkpoint, a Sprint and a Circuit. And if you've chosen the Tuner class, you'll have a Speedtrap, a Sprint and a Circuit. Its up to you which race you want to go through first but my suggestion will be to choose an easy race, the one at which you were good in Most Wanted. Do not use Neville until you are in dire need of him and he is near your opponent. I'll assume you've won the race now, because there is no strategy for this race. After you finish your first race, you and Neville will be blocked by the leader of that area (Kenji in Downtown, Angie in Kempton and Wolf in Fortuna). He/She greets you back in the city (in a harsh way, though) and wants you out soon! Note: Don't be frustrated if you cannot get by Neville's car, Crew members are always able to drive faster than you, even if you maxx out your McLaren, they'll still be able to get a head-start. 2.6 - Second Race and your first territory ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 4 - Tips n Tricks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4.1 - General Tips 1. If you're looking for rival challenges in free roam, go to a street corner and park your car there until you see a rival challenge. It's better than driving around looking for one and then get busted because of some random cop. [Thanks to insanecrazy07 for this one] 2. If you're good at getting ahead of your opponent in Canyon races then after you get ahead, stay in front of your opponent's car so that he can never get ahead. 3. If you go for the tuner ride, you should be able to beat the first batch of territories without even upgrading. 4. To get Drift King easily, do a quick race, non-ranked so you can use infinite Nitrous for drift and set it to 8 laps. [Thanks to insanecrazy07 for this one too] 5. When in a Speedtrap race, be sure to select a drafter as your Active Member and get ahead of your drafter by a few meters, gain some speed and activate him/her JUST BEFORE the Speedtrap mark (you'll know the timing by practicing) and your drafter will boost his/her speed DRASTICALLY to catch up as the EA guys set the drafter AI to always be in front of you when activated. [Thanks to -PrimaNurhadi- for this one] 4.2 - The Money Tip First of all, complete a career with any class you like, then try this. Note : BEFORE YOU TRY THIS YOU MAY WANT TO FILL UP YOUR GARAGE FROM YOUR 1st CAREER TO GAIN THE 3 "FILL UP YOUR GARAGE" REWARD CARDS - AN EASY WAY IS TO BUY THE SAME KIND OF CAR 6 TIMES. Note : Also, before you do this I suggest being able to purchase the Evo. Now...let's start. 1. Sell all your cars except one. 2. Go to the highway and crash some cars...The cops will be after you very soon. (Sometimes you will have to CHASE THEM when you see their red arrow on the map to get their attention faster). 3. Get busted pay your fines...Repeat till you have obtained 3 impound strikes (or the max you can get on that car). 4. Get busted one more time. Then choose EXIT TO MENU. Congrats, you've gotten a "Game Over." 5. Choose career and start a new one. 6. You have no money just like before, and it's basically the same. But you still have all your reward cards unlocked, all your cars unlocked (able to be purchased), all the challenge series you've completed and, all the parts you've unlocked! So all those Tier 3 cars can be purchased as soon as you have enough money, but we'll get to that soon. 7. In your new career, choose the Camaro as your car. 8. Win all the races in Kempton...Just before you have to race Angie you have around $120,000. Yeah! You can buy a Tier 3 Lancer Evolution IX MR. 9. Buy the Evo and keep the Camaro, trust me on this one. 10. With the Evo, beat Angie...Must be very easy. Note : NOW MAKE SURE YOU HAVE NEVILLE AND SAMSON IN YOUR CREW WITH SAMSON AS THE ACTIVE MEMBER. You should've gotten him after beating Angie. These guys will give you $200 + 10% of the winnings on every race, this will help a lot, trust me it adds up. 11. Take all Fortuna territories and beat Wolf. 12. Take all Bushido territories and beat Kenji. Note : Remember before you start Silverton, don't mod the Evo, it's just a waste of money and you may have to do some races in the stock Evo that you wouldn't have wanted to do. 13. Now all those races should have been easy with your Evo. But now it gets a little harder. Do as many races as you can in Silverton. Skip the Murcielago, unless you wanna deal with it. 14. Once you have around $970k or near, sell the Evo. If you don't want to sell it, sell the Camaro and do some free roam challenges, since you need them anyway. If you choose to sell the Evo you should get 1 Million and once you get that you can buy whatever you want. 15. If you don't have enough money after selling the Evo and only having the Camaro and can't complete the anymore races in Silverton. DO FREE ROAM CHALLENGES AS NECESSARY. 16. My suggestion would be to stick with the Evo and when you get 1 Million, get the Porsche Carrera GT or Murcielago. [Thanks to insanecrazy07 for forwarding me this awesome tip] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 5 - Glitches n Flaws ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Sometimes, when you start a race in Career mode, your wheels are spinning before the race starts. Mail me if you have witnessed any glitches ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 6 - Frequently Asked Questions ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Q 1. Where the hell is the 2007 GT500? Ans. It's rumored to be in a hidden car lot after you complete all the Muscle Car Challenges or when you complete 100%. Q 2. Where's the AE86? Can't find anything like it in the game. Ans. Same as you man! Q 3. Did this game really needed any FAQ? Ans. No, I don't think so, but I wrote it anyway. Q 4. Why can't I autosculpt Wheels, Spoilers and stuff? Ans. You probably don't have Samson in your crew. Sal does only half of the Body parts, the other half is done by Samson. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Section 7 - Credits ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ o GOD o My Comp, which I bought from hard earned money. o My Dad, for buying me a PS2 Slim after my PS2 was wrecked. o EA for creating this awesome game. o Sony for creating an awesome machine --- The PS2. o Hitachi for creating the TV I played this game on. 7.1 - Helpers/Contributors o ryanroberts and all others who contributed for the Fixer and Mechanic functions. (many people mailed for this one but he mailed first) o insanecrazy07, for the first & fourth trick, for forwarding me The Money Tip and for suggesting the best cars and crews sections. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright 2006 eViLrAcEr (Afzal Najam).
