      III. INTRODUCTION [itd]

Ever noticed that when you level up or finish some bosses, a box pops up in
the top right of the screen. It says the name of the character, if you level
up the new level, at times it indicates a rise in Strength, Magic, AP etc.,
and sometimes, it says an ability name.
When you gain a new ability, it appears under the "Abilities" menu in the
Main Menu. Press start, and you'll see a small yellowy-orange "new" near the
corresponding panel.
There are three types of Abilities: Action, Growth and Support. For further
information about each type, see the next sub-section. Equipping abilities,
any ability, costs Ability Points. For example, if I have 10/12 AP(=Ability
Points), it means that out of the 12 total AP I have, 10 of them are in use.
So, I cannot equip an ability which costs 3 or more AP, but I can equip
abilities which cost 2 or 1 AP. You can increase your maximum AP by using an
"AP Boost" item or by wearing any accessory, like a Sardonyx Ring.
Abilities have a different effect when equipped, depending on its type and,
of course, description.

In this guide, I will give you a layout of the different abilities each
character in the game has (each character you team up with), what is their
type and AP cost, and their description. Have fun with the fish!

III. 1. Using this Guide [itu]

As you can surely have seen by now, there is a quick-search system. Using the
Search or Find system that every browser has, you can quickly skip to any
part of this guide.
Windows Users: Press Ctrl+F to call up the search/find system.
Macintosh Users: Command+F to read above.
In the search bar, type the special code each section in this guide has
attached to. You can find those codes in the table of contents at the very
beginning of the guide.

Just a small note for all who don't know:
 /\ = Triangle
 [] = Square
 () = Circle
  X = Ex

Layout:
Ability Name (if it appears several times|ability type|AP cost) - Ability
description including MP Cost. (comments)

Total Cost: The total amount of AP required to equip all abilities/Max AP

         III. 2. Ability Types [ita]

     ACTION:
Action abilities are abilities that damage your foes and/or abilities which
you need to press a button in order to activate. A great example is "Guard":
You need to press the square button [] in order to activate it.
Most action abilities are related to attacks. e.g. "Horizontal Slash" where
you press [] in the middle of a midair combo to unleash an extra, devastating
combo.
The most powerful of all Action abilities is the "Trinity Limit". You can
use it alone (GREAT in the Sephiroth fight), it deals a ton of damage and like
during all Limit attacks, you're invincible whilst using it. Of course, the
downside is like all Limit attacks (explained below): you lose all MP.
Action abilities are marked in blue.

     GROWTH:
Growth abilities are obtained through leveling up your Drive forms (see the
[atdf] section). Each Drive Form, with the exception of Anti-Form, gives you
one special Growth ability and two support abilities and an active Auto-Form
ability (detailed under the drive form section, mentioned above).
They are 100% optional, and you can survive without them, but it makes a lot
of boss fights (especially in Proud Mode) a lot easier when you can jump higher
or run faster and etc.
Growth abilities are marked in yellow.

     SUPPORT:
Kudos to Support abilities. Without them, battles would be much, MUCH harder
and nearing hair-tearing eye-poking experiences.
Think I'm exaggerating? The "Scan" ability lets you see your foes HP, and as
such lets you plan your battle in a better way, in certain boss fight it lets
you know in which parts that boss unleashes a specific attack, and much more.
And there are more combat-related abilities: the Combo Plus abilities (and Air
Combo Plus, of course) make longer combos, Boost abilities enhance the effect
of certain acts and many, many more.
Support abilities are marked in green.

     WEAPON:
Although technically not "real" abilities, the Weapon abilities are inherent
abilities in your Keyblade(s). For example, the "Circle of Life" keyblade has
an inherent MP Haste ability. Meaning, if you equip that keyblade, you will
gain the MP Haste ability.
Whilst under the effects of certain forms (Valor, Master and Final form, to
be exact) you can use two keyblades, so you gain the effects of TWO keyblades.
So if I would have equipped the "Monochrome" on myself and "Mysterious Abyss"
on my Valor form, when entering that form I would have gained both the Item
Boost ability from the Monochrome AND the Blizzard Boost from Mysterious Abyss.
Weapon abilities are marked in red.

     LIMITS:
I just want to make this 100% clear: Limit Attacks are NOT special abilities
They are categorized as Action abilities, but they are unique in many ways, and
so I thought they should be specifically mentioned.
Limit attacks are special attacks which can be used by accessing the
"Limits" panel on the second-control-menu. They use the conjoined power of Sora
and another ally, but unlike Drive Forms they do not make that ally disappear.
Instead, special attacks are being used. For example, Simba's "King's Pride"
(Wildcat) is mainly the switching between two attacks: High Fang and X-Claw.
After some time, you can use a super-attack that finishes the Limit. In our
case with Simba, that is Proud Roar.
Limits use up all of Sora's MP (all of Sora's REMAINING MP, so if you have
50 MP, you lose 50 MP, and not for example 120...giving you negative MP...),
but they are mostly worth it.
During the use of Limit attacks, you are invincible. Yes. Invincible. Treat
it as a turned 8 defense or 9,000,000,000,000^7000 defense or whatever you want
You. Are. Invincible. Savvy?
But of course, there is a small catch. When you activate a Limit Attack, a
gauge appears in the upper-right corner of the screen, which says Limit Gauge,
and there is an orange bar which slowly drains. Self-explanatory.

         IV. 2. Drive Form [atdf]

As you progress through the game, you will gain special abilities called
"Drive Forms". When you use a Drive Form, you fuse a party member or your
entire party into you, giving you added attributes and special abilities.
There are five forms, each having special characteristics. Here is how to
   unlock them:
Valor Form: Obtained in Yen Sid's Tower in Twilight Town.
  Wisdom Form: Complete Timeless River.
Master Form: Talk to King Mickey in Hollow Bastion for the first time.
Final Form: Unlocked randomly. Once unlocked, it stays unlocked.
  Anti Form: Special point-system applied.
For more information about each Form, see the Drive Guide in GameFAQs at
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/915410/42388

Forms can be leveled up. When you level-up a form, you and the Form gain an
ability, and the form gets an extra Drive Gauge. Here is a representation
(drive gauge excluded):

      XVI. APPENDIX: Magic

Strength and Keyblade is not the only way to deal damage in this game. Like
the first Kingdom Hearts game, there is a Magic system. You have a certain
amount of MP(=Mana Points), and spells cost a certain amount of MP. You start
with 100 MP, and it increases as you progress through the game.
Spells have a certain power. The more Magic you have, the more powerful your
spells are; just like the Strength->Keyblade.
Spells can be aquired and upgraded by completing certain events.
When I say spells are "upgraded", I mean they get a power buff and a name
change. There is a pattern within the name change:
Normal name->Ra suffix->Ga suffix. Those who play/ed Final Fantasy already
know this.
Whilst not abilities, they are different types of attack, and as thus should
be noted in an ABILITIES guide.

      XVII. APPENDIX: Tricks

There are two Ability related tricks that I know up to date: 7 Lucky Lucky and
Easy Level Up.

--==7 Lucky Lucky==--
Using the ability "Lucky Lucky", which increases the drop rate of items, you
can easily and quickly obtain Synthesis Materials.
   Setup:
A Lucky Lucky ability on Sora, Donald and Goofy (see the first sections for a
how-to-obtain)
Sweet Memories Keyblade on Sora, obtained by rescuing Pooh in Spooky Cave.
Genji Shield on Goofy, obtained by completing the Titan cup.
Meteor Staff on Donald, obtained by opening a chest in Seadrift Keep in Port
Royal (Ship Graveyard).
Lucky Ring, obtained by completing by the Pain and Panic cup.

For a list of Synthesis materials, where to obtain them and more, refer to
UltimaterializerX 's great walkthrough:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/915410/42870.

--==Easy Level Up==--
Once you return to Pride Lands the second time, a gigantic swarm of Rapid
Thrusters will appear in The Peak, the place where you fought Scar. Normally,
each Thruster will give you 56 EXP. But, using the Experience Boost ability,
you can earn more, and by using Magic you can quicken the process.
   Setup:
 Experience Boost ability.
Gull Wing Keyblade, obtained by talking to Yuna in the Postern area in Hollow
Bastion after killing the 1,000 Heartless (Yuna is one of the three fairies).
Jackpot and Draw abilities. If you wish, also equip a Draw Ring.
Magnega or Thundaga spells (see preceding Appendix).

Land in the Oasis in Pride Lands. Go to the small, twisting area with lots of
Shamans. Disable and remove any healing items or spells your party members have
or better yet, under the Configure settings make them stand idle. Get hit until
your head gets sad, glows red and there is an annoying sound(=critical health).
Quickly, run to The Peak. Spam Magnega/Thundaga, and watch as orbs rain and
your EXP rise like mad. When you finish killing every single one, go back to
the preceding area, return to The Peak, repeat the slaughter. Rinse and repeat.
