The Dynasty Warriors 4 database provides the following information about him: "Former Prefect of Xi Liang. He is summoned to Luo Yang by He Jin to protect the young Han Emperor, but he quickly usurps the Imperial Court's power and begins a reign of terror. He adopts the mighty Lu Bu as his son, which allows his tyranny to grow even further, but in the end he is betrayed by Lu Bu and assassinated." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IV. Unlocking Dong Zhuo To unlock Dong Zhuo, simply clear Lu Bu's Musou Mode. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- V. Using Dong Zhuo A. Dong Zhuo's attacks 1. Regular attacks S - A left-to-right upward slash. SS - A right-to-left downward slash. SSS - A left-to-right slash. SSSS - A right-to-left upward slash. SSSSS - A left-to-right slash. SSSSSS - A straight thrust. X + S - A downward slice. 2. Charge attacks T - Dong Zhuo grabs and lifts an enemy into the air and does a quick, powerful slash with his sword. This attack is unblockable, but it doesn't gain elemental properties if you have an orb equipped. ST - Dong Zhuo does a leaping slash that knocks the enemy into the air. SST(T) - Dong Zhuo does a quick series of left-to-right upward slashes and right-to-left slashes, finishing up with two overhead slices. The last hit stuns the enemy. As your weapon levels up, you can do additional attacks by pressing T repeatedly. SSST - Dong Zhuo turns and does a straight thrust that sends the enemy flying. SSSST(T) - Dong Zhuo does an upward slash that knocks the enemy high into the air for a follow-up slash. SSSSST - Dong Zhuo fires a tall energy wave straight ahead. X + T - Dong Zhuo thrusts his sword into the ground, knocking down any nearby enemies. 3. Mounted attacks S/T - The standard series of alternating right and left slashes. Musou - A series of faster and stronger right and left slashes. Yawn. 4. Other attacks Dash attack - A right-to-left slash that hits 180 degrees. Counterattack - A straight thrust. Similar to the T of his SSST combo, but unblockable. Musou - A series of left and right slashes that knock the enemy into the air. Ends with a shockwave-producing back flop. True musou - Same as Dong's regular musou, but adds a fire element and two upward slashes before the back flop. B. Maximizing Dong Zhuo's effectiveness In all honesty, Dong Zhuo's not one of the best characters in the game. He doesn't have any good crowd control moves, the last two slashes of his SST combo hit in a very narrow area, and he's one of the slowest runners in the game. What Dong does have is power, and lots of it. He also has impressive defense, can easily juggle with his musou, and gets five item slots when maxed out in rank. If you used him in Dynasty Warriors 3, a lot of the same strategies apply in this game. Equip him with a Lightning Orb to give him much more respectable crowd control, and use your SST(T), SSSST(T), and SSSSS combos and your musou to mow through crowds quickly. When fighting generals, your SST(T), SSSST(T), SSSSST, and SSSSSS combos will serve you well. Don't try to use your T attack against generals unless they're stunned or distracted; they'll often jump out of your reach and do a charge attack, especially in later battles. I recommend the following equipment for Dong Zhuo: Harness: Shadow Harness Orb: Lightning Orb Items: Tiger Amulet, Tortoise Amulet, Herbal Remedy, Wind Scroll, Elixir/Way of Musou ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VI. Dong Zhuo's Weapons A. Weapon progression Lv. 1-3 Lv. 4-6 Lv. 7-9 Lv. 10 Tyrant Sword -----> Great Tyrant -----> Fear -----> Horror B. Dong Zhuo's 10th-level weapon Horror (Attack +57) Where To Get It: Lu Bu's Revolt, Dong Zhuo's side (*GASP!*) How To Get It: Defeat every enemy in the battle except for Lu Bu. The weapon message will appear after he says "From now on, I walk the path alone." How I Did It: For starters, I rode east and took out Gao Shun, then took a few steps to the north (literally) and eliminated Zhang Liao. I headed west and avoided Lu Bu's attacks while killing Chen Gong, then bolted to the northeast corner of the castle and closed Lu Bu's gates. I backtracked for Lu Bu, cutting down every peon I came across, and received the 10th-level weapon message once I killed the last of his troops. With all other enemies dead, I wiped out Lu Bu and finished the battle. My total time was almost exactly 11 minutes. "Kill them all! Ha ha ha!" -Dong Zhuo, Dynasty Warriors 3 Honestly, the quote sums it up best. Obtaining this weapon is one of the most straightforward procedures in the game. You don't have to worry about protecting anyone except yourself; just kill Lu Bu once all of the other red dots on the map are gone. If you need further help obtaining this weapon, you might be mentally deficient. Thanks to Jonathon Church ([email protected]) and several others from the Dynasty Warriors 4 message board on GameFAQs, I've learned that you do NOT have to personally defeat any of the enemy generals to obtain this weapon. If your allies finish off an enemy general, keep fighting! They've just brought you one kill closer to obtaining the weapon. If you don't need or care about the lost points, you might even thank them for their help. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VII. Dong Zhuo's Costumes Costume 1: Default costume. Costume 2: A palette swap of costume 1. Earned at 6000 points. Costume 3: Same color scheme as costume 1, but replaces the cap with a crown. Earned at 20000 points. My personal favorite. Costume 4: A palette swap of costume 3. Earned at 20000 points. Costume 5: Dong Zhuo's costume from Dynasty Warriors 3. Earned at 60000 points. Costume 6: A palette swap of costume 5. Earned at 60000 points. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- VIII. Questions & Answers Q: Why a Dong Zhuo FAQ? A: It hadn't been done yet, and I doubt that anyone else would have done it. Besides, I think he's a better character than a lot of people would like to believe. He's not the best, but he's definitely not useless. Q: Dong Zhuo's a big, fat, stupid pedophile. A: That's not a question, though it's mostly true. I don't mind his looks or personality; I think they make him a more humorous character. Q: I fulfilled the requirements to obtain Dong Zhuo's 10th-level weapon, but I didn't get it! What gives? A: Make sure that you have his 9th-level weapon and that you're playing on Hard. Q: Didn't you write a Dong Zhuo FAQ for Dynasty Warriors 3(: Xtreme Legends)? A: Yep. Q: Why do you keep writing Dong Zhuo FAQs? Are you obsessed with him, or something? A: I'm going to pretend that you don't exist now. Q: Your FAQ sucks! I've crapped out better FAQs than this! A: As soon as you find a way to upload excrement, you should post your wondrous creation for all to see. Q: I posted my FAQ, and every gamer on the planet thinks it's better than yours! Your FAQ really DOES suck! A: Congratulations! I am in awe of your superior FAQ-writing skills! Now go away. Q: This is the best FAQ I've ever read! You're a genius and a god among men, and I want to know more about you so that I can immortalize you! A: Yeah; I get that a lot. My contact info's listed below. Q: <insert some question that has nothing to do with Dong Zhuo or the FAQ here> A: See the second sentence of my previous answer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IX.
