When a sim is too depressed to study, it means that their overall mood is below 50%.
All of their needs as a whole need to be above 50%, and nothing can be critical Even if every need is 100% met, except one, that's critical, they'll be depressed.
We can't concentrate when we desperately have to use the toilet, and nor can they.

Well do fun stuff like go to the start screen hold all top buttons and type in midas and freeall, then go play your file buy him or her a pool table and let him do what he wants.
