Shoot him with the rifle and keep doging his attacks

Shoot Reed with your two shots with your shotgun as close as you can get to him ( aim for his head ) then pull out your rifle and quickdraw. Also, play all of the side missions and mine for gold to gain experience and weapon upogrades.

Have neds rifle equipped and as soon as you have control get on a horse and get right behind reed. 4 to 6 shots should do it. Shooting reeds horse won't work and you have to keep reed in sight. If he's out of sight his health begins to recover.

Just shoot him on his head and use the bow
