Well in grand prix you can unlock all cars permanantly by just winning the first 3 easy races then you just have to build up enough money to buy a better car then before entering another race always qaulify or free run get to know the track before trying anything
On free run I think it has something to do with how many laps you go bc I just got a new car just by doing 26 laps in free run
