I have found some ways on how to get faster race times and/or get ahead of opponent racers.

1. Evade traffic. I know evading traffic is excruciatingly boring and time wasting. What you should to to lessen your traffic crashes and explosions, is get out of the traffics way early. Dont wait until the last second or you will suffer. Moving early will also let you evade more and better since the evasion has been anticipated.

2. Dont surpass the limits of the car. Surpassing the limits of the car is the worst thing one can do in a race. Dont go from one side to the other of the road evading traffic, use my tip above. If you go from side to side, you will eventually crash hard or lose control of the car. Try to go as straight as possible. And in turns, don't punch both the handbrake and the brake at the same time. This will cause your car to slow down more than yu want it to, losing time. The best way is to let go off the gas and decelerate until the turn. Adding to that, don't decelerate right beforethe turn, intead, do it with fifty meters or so before. That way, the car will be in the low RPM�s and not cause wheelspin.
