What does the star mean on the command list eg x circle star down x I have never figured it out and I have teken 1,2,3 and 4.a.s.a.p I've been wanting to know for years.

It practically means nothing do the whole command and you should complete the move without bothering about the star.
It means to take your finger or thumb off the button you are holding down and then do the next thing in the combination. So it's kind of like a little break during the move you are going to do.
The star (or N in some variations) means to release the button or direction you are pressing/holding before pressing the next button in the sequence. I find the moves that require this type of control combination difficult to execute.
