Introduction to Attack
-----------------------

Attack is pretty much broken up into two categories. One is on what weapons you are able to use,
the second being the amount of times that you are able to hit and to hit high. If you want
to consider that three then go ahead. The higher your attack is the better weapons that you are
able to weild and the more likely of a chance of you hitting on a monster and the better
chance you have to hit high numbers. When you have a high attack level combined with a good
weapon and strength level you will be able to hit very high. Attack is a members and non
members skill.

You are able to get your attack skillcape from a man that is on the ground floor of the combat
guild. It only costs 99k in order to get it. Also you must have 99 attack.

--------------------------
Introduction to Strength
--------------------------

Strength is also used to tell how high of a hit you are capable to hit on a monster. If you
have a high attack level then you are capable of hitting high on monsters. However in order
to hit high often you will need a good weapon and a good attack level. Without those other
two factors you will not be able to dominate monsters very quickly. Strength is a members
and a non members skill.

Now you may be wondering. Just like every other skill are you able to get a skillcape.
The answer is yes. You are able to get the strength skillcape and the hood from a man
in the combat guild. He is found on the second floor.

--------------------------
Introduction to Defense
--------------------------

Defense is a rather good skill. If you have a high defense you are able to wear better armor.
If you have a high defense, along with good armor, then people and monsters have a harder
time hitting on you, and you will last longer in battle. Defense is very useful throughout
your Runescape adventure because it allows you to wear new armor and very helpful armor.
Defenseis often reffered to as the noob skill because people say it shows weakness that you
needed to get your defense up in order to last. Well they are the noobs. Defense is a non
members and members skill.

You can get your defense cape from the combat tutor who is found in lumbridge right next to
the castle. He is also with the range and mage tutor.

---------------------------
Introduction to Hitpoints
---------------------------

Hitpoints are the number of hits that you are able to take from a monster or another person
before you die. When you have a higher hitpoint level it helps a lot. You are able to
last longer in battle and you are able to kill people or monsters longer. All hitpoints
do is give you the ability to last longer in battle and is not in any way connection with
your ability to hold weapons or wear armor.

You are able to get your hitpoints skillcape once you have 99 hitpoints, you must pay 99k to
a nurse in the duel arena. Head to the duel arena and there will be a nurse in the infermury
there. Give her 99k for the skillcape.

----------------------------
Introdcution to Combat Level
----------------------------

As you may or may not have noticed, every monster and player that has the ability to engage in combat has a combat level. This level summarizes your skill in combat. Your combat level is made up of these skills:

Attack
Strength
Defence
Hitpoints
Ranged
Magic
Summoning
Prayer

Your combat level can be ranged, magic or melee based. The maximum combat level in RuneScape is 138. Defence, Prayer and Hitpoints contribute to your combat level no matter what it is based on. Attack and Strength only affect melee based combat levels, Range only affects range based combat levels and magic only affects magic based levels.

You may notice that the combat levels of other monsters and players will appear in a color - red, green, yellow, or something in between. Enemies 10 levels or more below you will appear very green. Likewise, if they are 10 levels or more above your combat level, their level will appear very red to you. If a player or monster is the exact same combat level as you, their level will appear yellow to you. If the enemy is less than 10 levels below you, their level will appear greenish-yellow, progressing as the level gets lower; enemies above your level will appear orange.

----------------------------
What Skills are able to do
----------------------------

Skills are able to do multiple things in order to help your adventure. I will break this part
into sections of skills and then work to the bone on each skill individually so I am sure
that I have covered most of the skill. I am sure that there will be many things that I will
leave out so there is always room for additions to this guide.

Attack is used to allow you to wield better weapons and for you to be able to hit more often
then you usually do.

Level / Weapon

Bronze 1
Iron 1
Steel 5
Black 10
Mithril 20
Adamant 30
Rune 40
Dragon 60

Strength is used to show how much you are able to hit per attack and on exactly some weapons
that you are able to use.

Defense is used to determine what kinds of armor that you are able to wear and how often and
how well your opponent will hit on you.

Bronze 1
Iron 1
Steel 5
Black 10
Mithril 20
Yak-hide 20
Adamant 30
Rune 40
Granite 50
Dragon 60
Elf Crystal 70
Dragonfire shield 75

Hitpoints is used to show you how many hits that you are capable to take. This does not have
anything that is dealing with what armor or what weapons you will be able to weild.

-------------------------------------------
Key Locations that require combat skills
-------------------------------------------

Now in this section of the guide I will be including all of these locations that require you
to have combat skills in order to reach that area. Now I may pick certain areas that may
include a quest also, but it still requires combat skills.

Now I am going to start off with one of the most popular areas that has recently come out.
One of the most recent areas is the newly added God Wars. In this are it requires combat skills
in order to get yourself to the bosses, or in order to get into the actual dungeon.

First actually trying to get into the dungeon. You must have 70 strength in order to move a
gigantic rock that is in the way between you and the entrance. You must have 70 strength or
higher in order to get through this way.

You will also need 70 strength once you are inside the dungeon. If you survive to get to the
boss, mainly the bandos god, you need 70 strength in order to get into his chamber. If you
don't have 70 strength then you will not be able to enter into the dungeon.

There will be more to come in the future when I get time to add more, and find some more.

----------------------
How to Level Them up
----------------------

Now to level up the skills is fairly easy. Though once you get too a higher level, that is
when it starts to get much harder to level them up.

Attack is good to level up because all you do is switch it to the selection that will give you
attack exp and it will start to level up over time. There is nothing really to leveling up
combat stats except the monsters that you kill and it will depend on your current levels.

Strength is the same way as attack pretty much. All you have to do is go into the selection
screen of your weapon and select the mode that will give you strength exp everytime that
you attack a person or monster.

Defense is the same way as the other two. Go into your selection mode for atackng styles
and select block. When you atack a monster or person you will now be recieving defense exp
everytime that you hit the person or monster that you are facing against.

Hitpoints doesn't matter which style you are using. Everytime you attack a person or a
monster you will get the exp for the skill of the style that you are currently using and
you will also recieve hitpoints exp for every hit that you make against your opponent.

Accurate: When fighting with this style, you will be more likely to hit your opponent.. This is the fighting style you should use if you are training Attack.

Aggressive: When fighting in Aggressive mode, you will hit much higher than with any other combat style. You should use this fighting style when training Strength.

Defensive: When fighting in the Defensive style, will be less likely to hit you. This is the fighting style you should use when training Defence.

Controlled: Some weapons give the option to fight in a special "Controlled" mode. When fighting Controlled, you will get a little of each. This mode of fighting gives 1.33 experience per hit to all three melee skills - Attack, Strength and Defence, as well as hitpoints.

As well as these four methods of fighting, you will see something else in the fighting styles - either Stab, Crush or Slash. Different weapons are better with certain styles, and different monsters and defences have a weakness to these different styles, eg. Plate Armour is weak against Crush attacks.

-------------------------------------
Special and How it Relates to Combat
-------------------------------------

When using special it all depends on when you decide to use it in a battle and on which weapon
that you are using. Dragon daggers are always a good weapon to use special with. Also Halberds
are good weapons to use special. This is because you are then able to make two attacks in
one turn. You get exp for each hit that you make with these two attacks. If you have a good
attack level and strength level then you will be able to hit higher and better using special.

Now this is how you shuld use special. When you are in a battle with a person or a monster
you should use special when you hit a low number. If your max hit is 24. Then when you hit a
number anywhere from 0 - 5 around that is the time when you will want to use your special.
If you have a good attack level and a good strength level then you will be able to do good
with this special attack.

---------------------------
Pures, Tanks and Others
---------------------------

Pures and Tanks are accounts that have been made to only do certain combat skills, though
not all of them. A pure usually consists of a good strength level and attack level, though
has a low defence level. Pures like this were very common during the pking days.

Tanks are accounts that usualy dedicate them selves to range, made, or strength. They will
mainly dedicate all of their training time to those skills.
-----------------
Training Methods
-----------------

There are many training methods to use while you are training your combat skills. So I will
just give you a few of methods that you might want to try when you are training.

---Slayer while Combat---

A good thing to do is to train slayer while you are training combat levels. This is because
when you do get to a higher level and you are getting closer to getting to your goal
of 99 in a combat skill, you don't want to have 99 in your combat skills and yet it will be
boring while you are training slayer because you have maxed out your combat skills and you
are now unable to advance in those skills and it gets boring when you can only level up slayer
and yet no other stat.

Another good thing to do is to train with guthans armor. This is because when you are using
barrows armor the special effect of Guthans is to heal yourself once in a while. If you have
good defense and the monsters are rarely able to hit you with their attacks then you are good.
With those once in a while attacks that will then heal you, you will be full health most of the
time during your battles. This will allow you to be able to stay at your location of
training longer and be able to collect more exp.

Introduction

Combat is thought by some as the most important part of the game RuneScape. It comes in many other different skills which can be found throught the guide. It is simply used to kill monsters, and other players. Other players can be only killed in the Bounty Hunter or in a dueling arena. It also shows how experienced a player you are for the higher your level, the more respect you get. This guide covers the three aspects of melee fighting - attack, strength and defence, as well as hitpoints.

There are also four other skills which contribute to combat - prayer, ranged, magic and summoning. For information on these skills please refer to the respective guides

Combat Level

Hitpoints

When fighting another player or monster, you will notice that you are hitting your opponent. Red or blue "splats" will appear on you and your opponent when they are hit. The number inside the "splat" indicates how many hitpoints have been taken from you. Once you reach 0 hitpoints, you will die, and reappear in Lumbridge (or Falador if you have completed Recruitment Drive and changed your respawn point). When you die, you will keep only your three best items (or four, if you have used the prayer "Protect Item").

Attack

Attack level dictates how often you hit an enemy. In short, the higher your attack level, the less 0's you hit.

Attack level also dictates what weapons a player can wield. The higher your attack level, the stronger weapons you have the ability to wield.

To advance your Attack level, you must fight with the style Accurate. When fighting in Accurate mode, you will be given 4 experience for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Weapons are what you will use in the game to attack your enemies. Certain Attack levels are required to wield the different kinds of weapons. To see the stats of individual weapons, please use the Items DB.

End of RuneHQ Mini - Introduction

Type of Armour Image Attack Level to Use
Bronze 1
Iron 1
Steel 5
Black 10
Mithril 20
Adamant 30
Rune 40
Dragon 60

To find out about specific pieces of weaponry, you can use the Items DB.

Strength

Strength is the skill that allows you to hit harder on enemies. The higher your strength level, the higher you will hit on enemies.

To level Strength, you must fight in Aggressive mode. You will be given 4 experience to Strength for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Defence

If you don't want to be dealt high hits, Defence is a necessity. It reduces your chance of being hit by an opponent. Note: Your magical defence is balanced in a 70% magic skill and 30% defence split.

Defence is also required to wear the different types of armour. The higher your defence level, the stronger armour you have the ability to wear.

To advance your Defence level, you must fight in Defensive mode. When fighting with this style, you will be given 4 experience to Defence for every hit you deal to the enemy.

Armour is a vital part of combat. It gives a defensive bonus, and means that you will be hit less often by your enemies. The armour you can wear depends on your defence level. The different kinds of armour and the level required are as follows:

Type of Armour Image Defence Level to Use
Bronze 1
Iron 1
Steel 5
Black 10
Mithril 20
Yak-hide 20
Adamant 30
Rune 40
Granite 50
Dragon 60
Elf Crystal 70
Dragonfire shield 75

To find out about specific pieces of armor, you can use the Items DB.

Combat Styles

When fighting, you can choose from different types of fighting styles. There are four different styles of fighting.

Training (F2P)

Here is a small guide to help you to achieve some levels in combat. Please note that the monsters in this guide are just meant to help you out, if you don't agree with something in this guide, feel free to do it your own way. Also, this guide is meant for training. If you are wanting good drops, DO NOT use this guide.

Level 3:
When you first start out, I recommend you go straight to cows. The best place to find cows would be beside the Crafting Guild, south of Falador. You should keep training on cows until about Level 30 or 40. Try to use a scimitar of the best metal you can use.

Level 30 (a):
Al-Kharid Warriors are a good place to train now. They can be found in Al-Kharid Castle. These are particularly good, because you can multi-task (do other things) while fighting them, as they start to attack you once you have attacked one of them. Be careful though, you might clear out the whole group of them, so you will have to go to another area of them.

Level 30 (b):
Another place you could train at Level 30 is at the Dwarf Mines, on dwarves. There are plenty up the top near the trapdoor to go down. There are also some near the anvils.

Level 30 (c):
Another place to train is Dark Wizards. These can be found in the wilderness north of the Dwarf Mines, and near Delrith, south of Varrock. These auto-attack, another place you can multi-task.

Level 30 (d):
Level 13 zombies are good to train on. They can be found in Varrock Sewers and Edgeville Dungeon, but you will not find too many close together.

Level 40 (a):
Hill Giants are where you should be heading now. They are found in the Edgeville Dungeon. You can get a Brass Key which gives you access to a ladder that leads straight to the Hill Giants.

Level 40 (b):
Remember the cows you trained at earlier? You might have noticed some hobgoblins right next to them. Here is where you should train now. Try and keep to the Level 28 ones.

Level 40 (c):
Ghosts are another good place to train. They can be found in Melzar's Maze, and for members, they can also be found in Taverley Dungeon.

Level 40 (d):
Level 24 zombies are another option. They can be found in Varrock Sewers.

Level 50:
Jail guards are a great way to gain experience. They are found near Draynor Village. Once you attack one, they will all attack you, so once again, you can multi-task. And no need to worry about food either - once you die, just walk from Lumbridge back to the Jail Guards (don't have more than 3 items if you are using this method). You can keep training on these until Level 70 and beyond, or you can move on.

Level 60 (a):
If you've still got the key to Melzar's Maze from the Dragon Slayer quest, the skeletons are a great way to train. You can also find Level 45 skeletons in the cave where you find Elvarg. They can also be found just north of Chaos Druids in Edgeville Wilderness Dungeon, which is members-only.

Level 60 (b):
If you want a change, you could try Deadly Red Spiders. These are found on Crandor, and in Varrock Sewers.

Level 70 (a):
You are starting to get to the point where it is getting very hard to find good monsters to train on. You will do perfectly well if you are still with Jail Guards. My advice is to stick with whatever you have found to be good experience previously.

Level 70 (b):
Lessers are good to train on at around this level. They have quite a low defence, so are quite easy to kill. Occasionally you may be able to snag a Rune Med. You can find them in Crandor.

By now, you should be starting to get an idea about where is good to train and where isn't. You can keep training at the places suggested here, or you can go off and find yourself some wonderful training places!

Training (P2P)

Being a member makes training combat unimaginably easier. Here I will note down some good training places that are members-only (also use the F2P guide, as I will not be repeating parts of

Level 30:
Rock crabs are an excellent way to gain experience. You will find these little critters in Relekka. You can train on these great little things until around Level 60 or 70.

Level 40 (a):
Chaos Druids are good to gain experience on, and they also give great loot - herbs. They can drop 2 herbs at a time, and they almost always drop at least 1. The best place to find them is in Edgeville Dungeon in about Level 2 Wilderness, but you can also find some in Taverly Dungeon.

Level 40 (b):
Thugs are good to train on around this level. They drop herbs, and you may also get yourself a low level clue. They can be found right next to the Chaos Druids, at the start of the Wilderness in Edgeville Dungeon.

Level 60:
Experiments are another awesome way to gain experience. They are only Level 25, and they have 100 hitpoints, giving you an ability to hit massively upon them, while they can hardly hurt you. These are good all the way until Level 126!

Level 85:
If you have done Legends Quest, the Shadow Warriors in the Legends Guild are a great place to train.

By now, you should have a pretty good idea about where you should train, so I'll leave it to you.

Magic axes in the axe hut in Level 56 Wilderness are good training too. They will attack you automatically, so you can be a bit lazy here. Remember this is in the Wilderness, so only take 3 valuable items with you. You will also need a picklock to enter the hut.

"This is RuneHQ's way of training. This will vary throughout the guide and your adventure."

Now this is my way.

Level 3 - 15

I suggest training on cows

16 - 25

Skeletons

25 - 35

Hill Giants

36 - 45

Hob Goblins

45 - 65

Moss Giants

65 - 75

Expiriments

75 - 85

Expiriments/Lessar Demons

85 - 95

Lessar Demons/Greater Demons

95 - 105

Greater Demons/Any High Level Monsters

Another good way to train is to train at the combat guild. Though you are only allowed in
there when ou have a certain combined total of combat skills. Though it is worth it.

About the Author
-----------------

Hello I am Subleme or as most of you may know me as Blademaster55. I am a Super Moderator of
the Super Cheats Forums. I enjoy making guides and walkthroughs mainly about Runescape. The
reason behind this is because I have played Runescape for a long time, though I have recently
stopped playing because I am a free player and it is boring now.

I enjoy making these guides for people to help them with their Runescape adventures. I hope
that people are able to get help from my guides.

I have made numerous other guides and I am a big part of the Runescape massive guide,
currently in progress. I have been producing guides to allow them to use. I hope that
it is to come all together soon and that the project will be a big success.
