In free play mode how do you get electricity for your house because I've looked at everything you can buy and there's nothing to give you electricity?

If you have made it to free play mode then you should have unlocked the power generator Story Reward. You find it under the "Story Rewards" tab in the Inventory section (which you access through Live Mode, not Barter). It costs 520 Resources.

You have to beat the story mode first and you get a wind powered generator
