Question for Star Wars: Empire at War

A favor for Lord Vader. I keep getting this request to attack with Darth Vader accompaning my fleet to Mon Calamari on the galactic conquest. The only way I've found around this mission is attack it before it gives me the mission. That doesnt always happen do to resources and not really a priority in the beginning of the game. When I attempt to accomplish this mission it will not even allow me to attack the planet's space or ground even with Lord Vader in the attacking fleet is there something I'm missing

Well try bringing a space fleet combined with a ground fleet that has Vader in it that helped me
