Right now, there are 2 ways to get "free" gold in Gardens of Time. The most obvious way is to Level Up.
Your level is indicated on the left side of your XP (the green bar at the top of your gamescreen). If you hover over the XP bar, it will tell you how much more XP you need to level up. When you get there, you will receive 1 gold bar and your energy will be recharged to 60.
The other way is to "win" a gold bar by spinning the 5-day wheel. It is very unlikely that you will get one, as the space for the needle to land on gold is extremely small, but it's worth a shot. I have gotten a couple of gold bars this way, but it's not something you should count on.
