I keep hitting the buttons cntrl,shift and keep getting nothing I can't enter cheats at all I got it to work on the first fate but this one is being a real pain in the balls and pissing me off.. Is there any other thing I might be missing??

Ctrl, Shift, and ~ are needed some good cheats to use are putting the word "flawless" before the name of a fish and the fish transforms your pet with no timelimit.
