Last Updated: by Dennis

Pac-Man 99 is a battle royale maze game that is part of the Pac-Man franchise. Gameplay involves up to 99 players competing simultaneously through an enclosed maze, eating dots on the board and avoiding colored ghosts that pursue them. Eating power pellets causes the ghosts to turn blue and become edible; eating ghosts sends enemies called 'Jammer Pac-Man' to another opponent in an attempt to slow them down and eliminate them from the game. The game features paid downloadable content that includes offline play and additional skins, with some based on other Namco games. Pac-Man 99 is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch. Eating Sleeping Ghosts

Near the center of the screen are lines of Sleeping Ghosts which you can eat up without a Power Pellet at any time. Whenever you do this the Sleeping Ghost will join one of the normal ghosts on the screen and become part of a Ghost Train that will come looking for you. Grab the Sleeping Ghosts as you travel around the maze, so they join one of the normal ghosts and create a long Ghost Train and then grab your Power Pellet as normal and head for the Ghost Train in order to eat plenty of Ghosts in one big swoop, sending an equal number of Jammer Pac-Man to your enemies in the process.

Switch Between Power-Ups

Make sure you pay attention to the four power ups you have on the right-hand side of the screen and make use of them. The two in particular you should take advantage of are the Power mode and the Speed mode. Pac-Man will be able to tank a hit from a ghost when Power mode is used, and he will speed up substantially when the Speed mode is used. If you skillfully switch between these two power ups you will be able to get yourself out of a lot of sticky situations where you would normally get cornered by ghosts.

Don't Waste Power Pellets

Resist the temptation to simply grab a Power Pellet the moment they become available, so you can continuously chomp down on ghosts. If you do this the inevitable will eventually happen which is you will run out of them and won't have any Power Pellets to eat when you need them most. It is therefore crucial that you eat them wisely.

Choose your Targets Wisely

Make sure you choose your targets wisely when you use a Power Pellet to swallow up a long Ghost Train to send it over to enemy stages. Resist the temptation to use the 'Counter' option to send problems to players targeting you, it is far safer and more effective, particularly in the early game to use the 'Knockout' option to overwhelm players quickly and rack up knockouts.

Take Advantage of Corners

In Pac-Man 99 you have substantially better mobility than the ghosts chasing you, this is particularly noticeable when you go around corners which you will be able to do much faster. Try not to stray too far away from T-shaped areas as these will give you a natural edge you can take advantage of when it is time to escape the ghosts chasing you.
