Before we get started with guide itself, I'd like to point out that there has been a good number of reports online about this game crashing (yes, mine crashed too barely an hour in). While not everyone is experiencing issues, I'd like to address this because these crashes can sometimes lead to corrupted save files. And frankly losing hours of progress is not fun at all. So if you are one of those players dealing with this issue, here are some tips to help:

  • For starters back up your save file to cloud if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription. Otherwise copy your data to a USB stick after every session.

  • Now if the game appears to have locked up your PS4 and the PS button on the controller doesn't respond, do not unplug the system. Instead let it sit for a minute or two and the system should "quit" back to the dashboard after a brief black screen. After which an error will be shown.

  • If the above method doesn't work and the PS4 is completely stuck, press and hold the power button at the front of the system for 20 to 30 seconds until you hear one beep. The PS4 will then shut down safely. Again, do not pull the plug.

  • One workaround that I found online and have tried is disconnect the PS4 from the internet. The idea supposedly is that the crashes occur when the game's server kicks you off then tries to log you back in. Now I'm not sure if your Discoveries are being automatically uploaded to the server or not, but if it is then this could also be the reason for the freezes. So far this workaround seems to be working for me and the game hasn't crashed since. It's a "fix" I'd recommend players with this problem to try.
